Simple Recycling

Description
This mod lets you insert items with durability into a science machine to be broken down into their scientific components.

That is, items inserted will be consumed, giving a chance to recive each item used in its recipie, with a chance equal to the % durability remaining * .9

Note that a green staff would have a much better chance of giving materials, but it would hardly be worth it on simple flint tools.

while you can recycle items containing them for other components, it will not return gems or nightmare fuel, as it would not only be easily exploitable with green magic, but wouldn't make sense to give a full charge gem or nightmare fuel when charges have been consumed.

I had always had a problem with worn tools, that have too few uses to warrant taking up an item slot on your next trip, instead choosing to make a fresh one. when i would get back often it would too used to bother bringing it next time, repeating the cycle and ending with too many worthless tools. I could never find a mod that gave a solution so i decided to make one myself.

Huge thanks to DarkXero and Mobbstar.

That's not what you said back in 2016 :)

I don't know what the "Equivalent Excahnge Mod" does but if people like to use the 2 mods together i find good that the mod works with science machine instead of alchemy engine.

Anyway the purpose of my comment wasn't to criticize the current science machine system. I just happen to understood how to make the mod works with alchemy engine, and since someone in the comments asked for it i released the istructions.

Actually i'd preffer to use the mod with science machine, but since the area of the flingomantics is limited i can't really find the space to build even the science machine so i opted to change with alchemy engine. Worse design, sure, but it is more practical :)

@Oliarco
Mostly I didn't want to make this mod incompatible with the equivalent exchange mod, which lets you use the alchemy machine to turn items into gold. Using these at the same time would make the game crash and there is no way to balance it.

If you want this mod to work with alchemy engine instead of science machine open the following file with any text editor: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\dont_starve\mods\workshop-742106665\modmain.lua

And replace the line 73.

Before:
AddPrefabPostInit("researchlab", recycleengine)

After:
AddPrefabPostInit("researchlab2", recycleengine)

Basically just add a "2" after researchlab. This will make the mod work with alchemy engine only.

I understand the modder idea to make it works only with science machine for leave a reason to the player to keep it, but i also understand that the point of modding is let the players enjoy the game as they want. So i'm pretty sure that leave here the istructions for makes this mod alchemy engine based shouldn't hurt nobody :)

You can put them into the science machine but it wouldn't give you gems or nightmare fuel.
I specifically included that feature as to not be unbalanced.

can you recycle staves ? cuz then the gems would be renewable

I know it says that it says it is out of date, but it stil works fine.

I like that this gives a reason to keep the old science machine around
