Welcome to The Left 4 Dead 2 Beta Restoration Project



Summary
The Left 4 Dead 2 Beta Restoration Project gives the Left 4 Dead community a faithful remake of the Left 4 Dead 2 E3 Demo, a pre-release build of Left 4 Dead 2 that showcases many unused designs, features, and concepts. Using this mod pack, players can relive the unique Left 4 Dead 2 experience brought to players at E3 2009!

A new update has been released on 26 July 2025 so be sure to try it out!

Important Notes
Users MUST understand that there are limiting functions within this addon that will directly impact gameplay. These changes have been incorporated to give users the most accurate representation possible, while also maintaining faithfulness to the original product. This means you acknowledge the following:
  • The mod's scripts will adjust and replace core game functions.
  • You will be limited to Single Player and Friends-Only Multiplayer.
  • The (E3) Parish Campaign will be your only campaign selection.
  • Local Servers will be your only accessible server setting.
If you wish to have access to the rest of the game's directory or combine with other addons, please download the Online Edition.[beta.gamemaps.com]

Installation
Subscribe to both Parts 1 and 2. Ensure that all other mods are disabled prior to this addon's activation. If you wish to install media files, such as the main menu background or startup loading screen, make sure to download the Complete Edition.[beta.gamemaps.com]View the readme.txt file in the "Enhanced Folder" for additional instructions.

Crediting all collaborator assets is extremely important, and we will do our best to ensure all work is properly recognized. To view all assets used in this project see here.

Legal
Sourcerer requires that if another content creator wishes to re-upload exclusive content, Gigan, or another developer, must be credited or notified with a valid reason for doing so. This is not only for the protection of our assets, but also for the rightful protection of donated content, as well as Valve assets. If Sourcerer finds any unofficial re-releases without permission, Sourcerer will file for copyright. Not removing the item will result in a report.

@jordan4258 While I would be honored to manage a project like that, that idea has been pursued before. Unfortunately, lots of asset custody battles were a direct result those teams being disbanded and their projects failing. Again, I'm not opposed to it, but given the damage years ago, and the differences between the creators, it's better not to get involved with it (at least for now).

is it possible you can do the same mod but for the Left 4 Dead 1 beta? it be really a cool mod and it be easy to install without having to find a collection for mods to recreate it LOL.

@Piškóta Is this a bug? If so, mention in the discussion list. But also make sure that you don't have any installation or addon conflicts internally before doing so.
