"Thunder" - Arma 3 Campaign Continuation

Description
This is "Thunder" an unofficial 4th installment of the arma 3 stock campaign series - Mission 01: Zero Hour

In development for several months and extensively tested before release, "Zero Hour" has gone on to become one of the most popular and highly rated missions of 2015 and the Premier Campaign Release of the year. With over 7,000 downloads and counting, "Zero Hour" sets the stage for a 10 mission campaign release, continuing on from where Bohemia has left off.

Thanks to everyone who has downloaded and played this missions, there are tens of thousands of you!! This is now a 6 year old file, the editor it was created in was the OLD 2D editor and I cannot keep updating this mission. Therefore, there will be no support / fixes for this mission, nor will I be able to offer support / answer questions. Ive kept these scenarios running for a few years but Arma still makes changes and the amount of abuse ive had through messenger and even on Twitter has turned me off further support. Again thanks for the interest and playing.

MISSION SPECIFICS

This BlackOps midnight raid takes place several weeks after the US Army has pulled back from Altis following the massive CSAT invasion, as seen in the "Game Over" mission at the end of standard Arma 3 Campaign. It is a daring NATO amphibious insertion to capture a CSAT held airfield on the northern Altis cost and cripple a radar site. Fight, Think, Survive.

-Take the role of Cpt. Tom Dillinger, an elite officer and soldier in the UK's Special Boat Service (SBS).
-Command and lead an elite 8 man multinational special forces team, making up part of the newly formed SFTG.
-Land and link up with the remaining resistance to CSAT's rule, the newly formed FAA - an amalgamation of the FIA and FAA left standing following the recent conflicts on Altis.
-Disrupt and destroy CSAT RADAR systems to allow for covert aerial insertion of additional NATO personnel and captured AAF equipment from Stratis.
-Help the FAA defend its small remaining territory and fight against impossible odds and superior equipment.
-Discover the truth behind CSAT's Earthquake super weapon - codename Tempest.
-Mission playtime is around 1 hour and features dynamic opponents, no single play through will be identical

MISSION CONTENT & QUALITY:

- Custom voice acting and dedicated, consistent character setup across the mission story arc.
- Tension and ambience generated through story, setting and mission execution .
- Custom map loadout with new locations, including the objective airfield in nothern alits
- Detailed story arc introduction for immersion, helping to create an RP friendly scenario.
- Custom "Movie style" UAV text introduction
- Extensive testing to eliminate the majority of bugs, other than fundamental BIS issues
- AI & Player with full custom loadout, they wont run out of ammo after just 2 mags
- Stock compatible - no scripts, mods or addons required (recommend running with JSR and Blastcore for extra effect)

STORY / SITUATION & MISSION BACKGROUND:

Operation Aegean Thunder (OAT), forms the "Thunder" episode and takes place several weeks after the events seen in the ending "Game Over", part of the "Win" episode from the standard Arma 3 Campaign.

Throughout Arma 3's campaign, the player controls Ben Kerry in his quest for survival on Stratis and Altis, before a wider conflict between the United States and the CSAT backed Altis Government begins. All the while, Altis begins to experience seismic events unseen for years.

The ending to current campaign shows UK Special Forces capturing a device suspected of generating earthquakes. Following this theft, CSAT launch a full scale invasion of Altis, targeting the AAF, the Rebelious FIA and the United States Mechanized Brigade sent to force regime change following the "Terrorist" attack on Stratis - which was not all as it seemed.

Following the US' withdrawal allegations of secret deals and super weapons were banded around from the Western NATO alliance as political storm threatened to bring down the current US President.

Unwilling to risk full scale war for the loss of a relatively small number of troops, the United States calls upon NATO countries to band together in the face of CSAT's first aggressive move. As tensions rise between East and West, armed forces are mobilised and are pushed to increasingly higher states of alert. In Europe troops surge to the North African, Russian and Asian borders whilst in the Pacific American carriers and submarines slip out of port and look east towards CSAT's homelands.

Against the backdrop of global panic neutral countries mediate desperate deal for peace at a hastily called conference in Geneva.

Behind the scenes however, NATO prepares for the worst and decides that CSAT's new weapons cannot underline the current Cold War Era doctrine. In desperate need of answers whilst debating whether or not to start war, NATO leaders create a new secret elite force to carry out deniable and covert missions on CSAT soil, specifically the theorised testing ground of Altis. Handpicking the most capable individuals from the various NATO special forces teams, the Special Forces Task Group (SFTG) is born.

As "Zero Hour" approaches and the politicians talk, several small teams, disguised as local resistance fighters, silently slip onto Altis. Utilising this newly formed force, NATO covertly takes the fight back to CSAT in a desperate search for answers.

FUTURE PLANS:

An entire episode called "Thunder" is currently in development.

I really enjoyed playing ARMA 3's campaign so I decided to continue it, unofficially, whilst trying to inject more story and varied gameplay, making better use of the Altis and Stratis Maps and ARMA's functionality. I have a script written, missions titles, dates and times assigned in a set chronological order that fits with the "lore" of what we have already seen.

"Thunder" will focus on immersion, creative writing and entertaining missions with an individual feel and look. Voice acting, scripting and later new custom models will be added to create a DLC feeling to game. Mission 2 "Hellfire" follows on from "Zero Hour".

KNOWN BUGS:

At the moment, the only known bugs are thay you MUST use the audio setting with music turned on, this way you can here custom voice comms. This is a temp work aroud, due to KBTELL issues in game at this time. Please report other bugs as they pop up.

CAN I GET INVOLVED?:

Yes, yes and yes.

Im on the lookout for skilled, or willing (both would be good) community members to help with scripting and voice acting, the latter is of most importance as you can only go so far with voice distortion until production values feel poor. Specifically, help utilising KBTELL as well lip sync and video content would be a great help.

If you are interested, please drop me an email on thunder-arma3@outlook.com

SPECIAL THANKS:

Thanks to VUman and is awesome youtube channel - so many useful videos and his guides are awesome.
Also thanks to Jester 814 for much the same reason and who's random A2 video in my youtube feed got me into Arma.

Radar, Airfield assault, destroy all devices and infantry at the airfield and await reinforcing airdrop of NATO troops, then use a vehicle at the airbase to go to Oreokastro.

> These missions were all made in the old 2D editor
1. Wow! The mission is really reach in content and runs smoothly. Guess it was not so easy to do in 2D.
2. I really like your mission design. Very clean and concise, use of standard assets wherever possible, in my experience gives the least of troubles when BIS updates the engine.

<<<<<A little bit of spoilers>>>

3. What was the intended sequence of events: go to the airfield after the radar or should I visit the Norther HQ first? Northern HQ has a task of sleeping over, will it run the game time into the daytime or it's substituted by Oreokastro defense? I played in nighttime yet I turned off the fog yet if it's gonna be no fog after the radar then I'd play as originally designed.

PS I really liked the mission. One of those you enjoy returning to from time to time.

Its an old editor prior to the editor in Arma being what it is - These missions were all made in the old 2D editor and through scripting. MCC SANDBOX allowed on the fly changes to weather and AI etc. and was powerful at the time.
Nobody 5 Feb, 2023 @ 2:38am
>try playing with MCC
What is MCC? I turned off the fog in the editor yet left the midnight staring time so I'm playing now. Tasks and soryline is superb as always with your works!
JAY13  [author] 2 Feb, 2023 @ 6:10am
Thanks for that Nobody. If you want to change fog etc. try playing with MCC and change the time.
