With the MT-50 Stenbock MBT reaching the end of its service life the ESDF high command and materials administration decided it was time for a new tank to take its place and as such the MT-55 Ramhorn MBT was given the go ahead, using many components from the MT-50 such as the powerplant and the turret the MT-55 simplified logistics as stockpiles of spare parts for the MT-50 would not go to waste and with a minimal impact to production lines.
The MT-55 Ramhorn uses a new frontal design compared to prior ESDF MBT which gives it better protection from frontal projectiles while also introduces weapon racks on the turret for the crew to store additional weapons in such as rocket launchers to use against hostile vehicles should the tank become incapacitated.
