1983 Radius Motors Station Wagon from Pacific Drive

Description

NOW 1.8+ COMPATIBLE!

This is the result of my very first car (and first proper project) with over 300 hours spent on building, testing, tweaking, and perfecting spread out over six months.

Summary
This build aims to be the most faithful and feature complete recreation of the original car I could make while respecting brick count limitations.

Never heard of Pacific Drive?
Pacific Drive (2024) is a survival "horror" crafting game where you, along with the trusty sci-fi station wagon you find in a shed, must survive in the Olympic Exclusion Zone: a place where the fabric of reality itself has been corrupted.

Characteristics and features
  • Working LIM Shield: Rear bumper that protects you from physical damage when it is intact and enabled (details below);
  • 227-brick vehicle health display: 52 nerves into 21 parts with up to 5 states and 8 indicators displaying broken and cracked components;
  • Top speed of 131 km/h (298 km/h with quirks). To reach higher speeds, spam the wipers or turn on the interaction display bottom left of your camera inside the car;
  • Simulated battery and fuel system (vehicle is refuelable);
  • Carefully balanced damage behavior and driving experience;
  • Working and accurate warning lights panel;
  • Fully supports partial steering, throttle and braking inputs;
  • Working hood, trunk, and four doors;
  • Speedometer, fuel gauge, wipers, and other moving parts;
  • Warning lights and left blinkers.

Keybinds and relevant switches
  • Horns (H): Honk! Don't scare the anomalies away!
  • Headlights (L): Toggles headlights (consumes battery!);
  • Hazard lights (K): Toggles hazards;
  • Yaw left (Non-auxiliary ←): Hold for left blinkers;
  • Yaw right (Non-auxiliary →): Hold for right blinkers;
  • Beacon (B): Toggles the LIM Shield;
  • Disable steering (X): Toggles wipers;
  • Interact (switch): Increases engine's max speed.

Notes
  • For the most accurate experience, consider switching to manual and staying in last gear even when starting.
  • Built with 120° FOV. Uses some hex-edited spinner/LOD trickery which may result in the car looking different when viewed from an undesired angle or field of view. Do not worry, issues are minor and barely noticeable at worst;
  • Exploits Brick Rigs' physics. If these features somehow become a source of crashes, please report them in the comment section.

Fancy details for you breachers

I would be a monster not to leave a wall of text higher than the exclusion walls on such a project for every tiny detail. Here it is, hope you're addicted enough to Pacific to read through!

Vehicle Config
Desiring to remain somewhat neutral, I've gone with:
  • The default color and full steel armor.
  • A LIM Shield as rear bumper, to populate the abilities tab and promote this car through visuals and mostly unheard of tech.
  • Offroad tires to justify Brick Rigs not differentiating friction or other aspects on the different terrains of its maps.
  • Bio headlights (right slot) to justify higher brightness.
  • Modelled LIM Engine.
  • As part of the simplifications, the rear trunk is also upgraded to "A Trunk In The Trunk".

LIM Shield
The LIM Shield is one of the car's main features, and more importantly one of the car's main challenges. Unlike Pacific Drive, Brick Rigs has fully simulated crash physics, so I cannot dynamically adjust the durability of parts on the fly.
Thankfully, while previously working on BRCI, I was lucky enough to stumble upon the key workaround to make a believable recreation: the aforementioned exploits in the game's physics.
When active (toggled with the keybind B), the LIM Shield near-instantly stops the car if it approaches an obstacle detected by one of the 24 proximity sensors at sufficient speeds, resulting in a surprisingly accurate recreation.

Quirks
Vehicles in Brick Rigs drive tend to reach high speeds, so keeping the car capped at 131 km/h (82 mph) would make for a boring experience at times. To fix this, I implemented a speed quirk: (Wipers) (Turns on) → (Car) (Jolts forward), allowing you to reach upwards of 298 km/h. Spamming the wiper button can be quite tedious, though, so I also added an alternative. By using the interaction panel, you can unlock the engine and reach those high speeds using just the throttle.

Whispers in the Woods DLC content
I do plan to bring whatever I can from WitW into this project. While the DLC isn't released as of writing, I have already implemented the small bits of content we know about such as the new blue bar on the health display. This car will be updated to feature more WitW content once the DLC releases!

Design flaws
I've had to get a bit creative due to both the limitations of Brick Rigs itself and my goal of keeping the brick count reasonable. As a result:
  • Many details, most notably cables, were omitted;
  • Many shapes were simplified or abstracted with text bricks;
  • The ARC Device displays a broken screen instead of the map;
  • Parts of the ARC Device were not built. Please don't throw me to the bunnies!;
  • There are no wiper/headlight levers inside;
  • The compass does not work;
  • Some icons were replaced with ones already available in Brick Rigs;
  • Most dashboard lights ended up using inverted (negative) icons;
  • The storm and anomalous behavior lights will never trigger;
  • The interaction panel logic is simplified, with some previously mentioned special behavior;
  • Added hazard lights / blinkers (using timings from trailers);

@2025 potato, works fine for me. Guess it's a problem on your end.

I would blame it on steam not updating on your side for some reason. I did it in the morning and had quite a few issues too, but right now on my side it's working and I have it spawned right now in 1.8.4. If you want you can try restarting steam hopping it checks for updates?

it says now 1.8 compatible but its really not

Care so little about that anymore it took me 10 minutes to get motivated to tell you it's scrapped

now i must ask about that nuclear reactor you were in the process of making since the last time i saw you

Yes I've been busy cooking, can't believe I actually finished one of my projects for once

I just downgraded the build to 1.8, completely forgot to do it before uploading. This shouldn't affect the car in any way, and you may now be able to drive the car on the main branch!
