Crafting Redux Series

Description
Tired of spending AI Cores on homemade weapons only to get outclassed by Scraphouse gear? This expansion mod makes your smithing actually worth it.

⚔️ Overview ⚔️
Crafting Redux Series is a modular overhaul of Kenshi’s armor and weapon crafting system. Its goal is to reduce blueprint clutter, organize armor and armour mods, and make crafting more intuitive—while preserving immersion and compatibility.

All core and expansion modules are conveniently available in one Steam Workshop Collection:

🔧 Features 🔧
• Adds Edge Type 4 Weapons: Unlock Edge Type 3 through research, then land a Critical Success in smithing to craft Edge Type 4, which outclass Scraphouse gear.
• Research Tree:
 – Edgewalkers Weapon Smithing: 1 AI Core (down from 4)
 – Edgewalkers Weapon Refinement: 1 AI Core, 1 Engineering Research, 1 Ancient Science Book
 – Edgewalkers Weapon Expertise: 1 AI Core, 1 Engineering Research, 1 Ancient Science Book
• +10% cutting damage for homemade weapons means crafted Edge Type 3 weapons now match Scraphouse equivalents, and Edge Type 4 can exceed them.

🗝️ Requirements 🗝️
• The Edge Smthing expansion requires the Weapon Smithing Redux: Core module.

If you haven't tried it yet — you should. It takes all the messy blueprint clutter, separates weapons by type and grade, and just makes everything feel right. Think of it as giving your forge a much-needed organizational exorcism.

🧠 Vanilla Research Fix 🧠
This expansion also includes a small quality-of-life tweak: vanilla Weapon Smithing research now costs nothing and can only be unlocked once you complete the Redux versions.
That means no redundant research, no compatibility headaches — just clean integration.

💡 Why This Mod Exists 💡
Vanilla crafting is frustrating. You dump four AI Cores into research only to make weapons weaker than what a random vendor sells. This expansion fixes that by rewarding your investment:
• Guaranteed parity with Scraphouse gear (Edge 3 +10%)
• Rare Critical Success = powerful Edge 4
• Meitou Weapons remain untouched and special — Edge 4s are strong, but still a step below those legendary blades.

🎨 Textures 🎨
Edge Type 4 weapons use textures from Wolven Meitou Weapons by Hung Buddy:

Textures were duplicated into new objects, so this mod stays fully compatible with the original. Huge thanks to Hung Buddy!
(If they prefer, I can remove the borrowed textures — just say the word.)

⚙ Compatibility ⚙
• Requires: Weapon Smithing Redux: Core
• Load Order:
 1. 2PN8WeaponSmithingCore.mod
 2. 2PN8WeaponSmithing.mod
• Compatible with all major weapon mods (including Wolven Meitou Weapons).

🧩 Developer's Note 🧩
Across all its modules, Crafting Redux adds a lot of new content — over 177 new data entries between the two Core modules alone. These include new research paths, crafting recipes, and benches. I've done my best to ensure everything works perfectly, but if you spot something missing or broken, please let me know in the comments — I'll patch it up as soon as I can. 👍

💭 My Thoughts 💭
Meitou Weapons should stay mythical — something you find, not forge. This expansion gives dedicated smiths a satisfying capstone without breaking balance.

If you enjoy my mod, feel free to hit that 👍
Positive ratings let me know I'm doing a good job! 😊
I appreciate all feedback, so please leave a comment! I read every single one of them!

I'm also working on updating all my old mods, so I'd love it if you checked them out. They're featured on my workshop page:

Permissions & Use
Feel free to translate, edit, chop up, deep fry, or otherwise modify my mods to your heart's content. All of my mods are freely distributed. If you end up editing one, I'd really appreciate receiving credit with a link to the original mod. It's not required, but it would make my day! 😊

@Dale XIII Glad it's working out for you! And yeah, I guess I should have mentioned the other fixes it provides are huge. I don't know how exactly, but installing it also reduced my load times. I am very happy with that mod :D

@2PercentNate I've been using the Extension Plugin off your recommendation and it has indeed been an improvement over the other solutions. Some of the other features you didn't mention are massive as well, good looking out bro

Will keep in mind, thanks for the reply

Also, side note — NCE removes cut efficiency entirely, which breaks one of Kenshi’s coolest combat mechanics. If you want balanced armor without losing that feature, use Kenshi Extension Plugin instead:

It actually fixes the system instead of deleting it. Plus it saves you a pile of NCE patches — way cleaner load order overall.

@Dale XIII None of my Redux mods touch armor stats — they just fix crafting menus, add new benches, and allow unlocking things through research. NCE shouldn’t affect or be affected by them in any way.

these work with NCE?
