Cold Winters

Description
Compatible with both B41 and B42
This mod only affects the climate during winter - the other seasons won`t be changed.

Introduction:
Vanilla Zomboid climate of Kentucky is set up in such a way that winters are quite warm and mild. For instance, snow barely stays for more than a month between December and February, and it melts pretty often. Additionally, you may only encounter quite low temperatures a couple of times throughout the whole winter. Even if you change the temperature preset in Sandbox to "Cold" the temperatures will drop to -15 degrees for a few weeks in January. Actually, these temperatures are historically accurate if you check KY weather history in 90`s, but some players may find it not challenging enough.

What does this mod do:
The "Cold Winters" makes winter tougher: temperatures can drop to -30 degrees Celsius, and you'll find yourself facing real cold by lowering winter temperatures, which is more challenging for your survival. Additionally, blizzards will occur more often (can be disabled in Sandbox settings), so be ready to cope with extreme weather.
Winter will turn into a season that requires serious preparation. It will also take some time in the beginning of spring to make plus temperature back. And for a better experience, I`d recommend you set the temperature preset to "Normal" if you play in sandbox. This will make the beginning of autumn/end of spring less cold.

FAQ:
Is this mod compatible with "Surviving Through Seasons" or "Hypothermia Kills"?
- Yes.
Can I add this mod at mid-game?
- Yes, you can add it whenever you want.
How many times do blizzards start?
- Approximately 3 to 6 times per month. Each day has 12.5% chance to trigger new blizzard, which means you`ll face it a few times per month.
Is this mod compatible with "Cryogenic Winter"?
- No.
Is this mod compatible with "Weather Manager"?
- No.

Note: this mod is NOT compatible with other weather changing mods. There is also the issue with “Project Summer Car” mod that can make temperature inside a vehicles like +300C or -30C. Additionally, I do not recommend you to use it with “Winter is coming” challenge because it can may not work properly.

Keep in mind that you are not allowed to repack this mod without permission.

I hope you enjoy this mod!
Please rate it if you liked it. I really appreciate that.

@Blkbeard Thank you for the feedback. Yeah Im working now on adding additional option to tweak blizzards. It will be great If i can give to a player more control. But I cant ensure that this option will be really added because there are some problems that I cant describe in a few words... And its not about difficulty of coding it - its about how to integrate such setting(s) into the mod in a seamless way.

Love this mod, an essential one I plan to include with every play through going forward.

I've been looking for a mod for a while now that adds more blizzard occurrences to the game, with the cold, to make winter more of challenge, but doesn't over do it. I love snowy, harsh winter months to plan and prepare for, which adds an entire new element to the end game imo.

Will there be further options to tweak blizzards in the future? (I would love this)

Thanks for this awesome mod, seems to be working great so far playing with 200+ subscribed mods!

What is your game version? If it’s b42, this can be caused by an another mod. I’ve checked this mod with 100+ another mods and it works perfectly. Same for b41.
Make sure that your “Cold Winters” version is 1.4
And anyway try to leave the game, unsubscribe then subscribe this mod and launch PZ.

@Jackson Frost
Can't see Sandbox options on ongoing save, nor in the Mod options on pause menu, nor using a Sandbox Options mod during game.

Major update:
v1.4

Changes:
- Added script which makes blizzards occur more often during winter.
- Added sandbox option to enable/disable increased chance of blizzards (you can change it whenever you want).
- Daily difference between max and min temperatures has been decreased.
- Temperatures have been slightly changed, so spring and autumn became less cold.
