Roadblock Duty Malden

Description
A mission inspired by the original Roadblock Duty from Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead. Now created for Arma 3 with inspired elements of games such as Papers Please. Made with help from Chat GPT, to prove an idea doesn't require extensive scripting knowledge to make true.

Roadblock duty puts the players in the position of a checkpoint guard. Responsible for checking vehicles and civilians for contraband, explosives, proper IDs, and registration whilst fending off insurgent attacks.

Use the Terminal at the roadblock, to allow Civilians to enter the checkpoint, so they can be checked. Start Processing, Clear Civilians.

A couple of core features of Roadblock Duty are;
  • Three Save Slots, that can be saved, loaded, and wiped. Remembering Score, Unlocks & Emplacements.
  • A scoring system that rewards or pushes players for their decisions.
  • Highly Custimizable. Roadblock Duty was made to be changed and adapted. Mission makers can easily port the systems over, and change factions in the scripts with the custom presets.
  • ACE Integration Uses the ACE 3 framework for custom interactions.

Factions you can choose from by default; NATO, NATO APEX, Contact NATO, LDF, Gendarmerie, Western Sahara UN, RHS US, 3CB UK, SOGPF US.

Various 3CB and CUP factions are supported.

The Scoring System
The scoring system tracks the decisions made. Each action facing consequences. Not only is the scoring an indication of how well or poorly the checkpoint is being operated, but the score also allows the purchasing of new weapons, gear, attachments and static weapons. Be mindful though! As by default respawns are set to cost points from the same system, and if you run out of points, and everybody dies, the mission fails.

What's being tracked?
  • Killing Civilians & Enemies
  • Salvaging enemy vehicles, and purchased static weapons.
  • Making a lawful, or wrongful arrest.
  • Defusing, or wrongfully trying to defuse an exposive.
  • Allowing civilians and vehicles to pass through.
  • Arresting a High Value Target.
  • Impounding a vehicle.

Gameplay elements
To operate the roadblock, every civilian car needs to be checked and searched. To get the best possible score each time, roadblock operators have to check for the following.

  • Check if the vehicle's registration matches the driver's name.
  • Check if the vehicle's registration matches the driver's ID.
  • Check if the vehicle's registration matches the plates.
  • Check the vehicle for any contraband.
  • Check the vehicle for any explosive devices using a mine detector.
  • Check the names of civilians, and make sure they are not wanted.
  • Check the origin of civilians, and make sure it's not on lockdown.
  • Search the civilians for contraband.

You can detain, or decide to let them pass through the roadblock using the terminal, after which your scoring will be applied.

Unlocking the Arsenal
Using the Terminal at the roadblock, you can spend your points earned on upgrades, and static emplacements. Each faction has their own selection of weaponry, optics, and gear to unlock. Some factions might even start out without any nightvision. All your unlocks will be stored, and saved.

Enemy Forces
Use the mission parameters to easily change between a couple of popular enemy factions. However, if you or your group would like to change the factions, you can easily do so without little scripting knowledge by going into \configs\customFactions.sqf, and use the Custom Parameter.
  • The enemies will try and strike the roadblock with mortars, and illumination flares during the night, be sure to take cover!
  • Enemy groups will strike the roadblock when you least expect it.
  • Enemy infiltrator groups will try and sneak inside of the perimiter before engaging.
  • Enemies might use vehicles to frontally assault the roadblock, or go off-road and flank around.

Other Features
  • Optional Ambient Civillians
  • Optional Ambient Air (Friendly)
  • Support for ACE Survival
  • Generator allows the lights to be turned on, and off.
  • Supplies will be delivered by a truck.
  • A terminal to control mission specs, the roadblock, and admin tools for easy customisation.
  • Arrest civilians using zipcuffs, and bring them to the holding cell inside the building.
  • Medical building to allow healing using ACE medical.
  • All ACE Medical items are unlocked by default.
  • Close the roadblock using the terminal to pause the mission.
  • More? Probably? There's quite a bit of stuff in this mission.

Honestly, do with this mission whatever you want, just don't reupload it to the workshop without editing. Credits to original Author would always be appreciated. But port it to other maps, add different factions, this one's for the community. Do with it as you please, other than selling it or some dumb stuff.

Bugs may be present, I probably forgot some stuff, just tell me about it and I'll most likely fix it. No pinky promise though. Mission works well enough.

Originally i had some sound mods on etc, but it was freezing, so i stripped the mods down to the minimum

Seems to freeze the game on mission load, i did also try with all other mods turned off too (Apart from ACE and CBA_A3 :'(

Any known cause for this maybe?

Had the same problem, steam doesn't update the mission it seems, you need to find it, delete it manually and subscribe to it again. Or, just save yourself the workaround and just download it from the github and plop it where your missions from the editor are saved.

Seems interesting but dosent work for me :( (it keeps saying missing content from ACE)

I had only tested it with VCOM myself, I'll look into what I can do for LAMBS, I believe I can certain cba settings off for the mission unless the client forcess the mission settings to be overwritten.

If you need any help porting it over just shoot me a friend request and I'd be glad to help. I'll update the github to the latest version tonight.

Also don't forget to check the Roadblock Essentials composition on my workshop. It had a composition with all thats needed to port the mission (except the scripts) and some explanations on what everything is.

Sorry, it's my bad, I do use Lambs. So it's on me... Glad to hear about SOG PF, that can be a interesting one depending on place, will be a challenge to defend on low ground for example. My advice is to turn off damage on some buildings so you don't get stuck in the open after mortar hits.

Currently trying my hand at porting it to Farabad(Global Ops Terrains), UNA/UN/IDAP themed, wish me luck.

For the SOG PF, there were some AI issues for the civs from the SOG PF classes I'd like to work out before properly supporting the maps

Thanks for the comment! Thats a very interesting bug, haven't had that happen in any of my testing. The civilians are spawned careless so they wouldnt not get affected by any danger triggers.

Are you using any AI enhancement or alterating mods? If so I could look into compatibility for them
