Roulette (Randomizer)

Beskrivning

NEW: Play Roulette now, on Aar's Halloween Workshop rotation server! [aarmastah.xyz]

Welcome, mortals, to Randomizer!

The cult classic community game mode "Randomizer" is back, with brand new mechanics and animations! No longer will your pathetic arms be horribly twisted, mangled, or turned into ghosts. Your arms will now adapt to every weapon, with only MINOR twisting and mangling! It's far less painful, and far less ghastly. We think you'll agree. If you don't, we'll go back to twisting and mangling you, as per the previous status quo! So BEWARE!!!

But that's not all-- third person animations are adapted, too! While some contortion and discomfort is to be expected, many wonderful sights are still in store for you. Your Engineer, revved up at his sentry nest... Your Medic, capable of blasting rockets... Your sniper, continuing to be useless, but this time, he's holding a syringe gun! I'm horrified just thinking about it!

I've played Randomizer before, but what's different?

While you can expect your loadout to be scrambled, your class' core identity is preserved.
  • Engineers are the only ones capable of placing and upgrading buildings. Your buildings will also remain on the map, even when you change class. However, you will no longer be able to repair them. A fellow randomized engineer will have to pick up where you left off.
  • Medics will always have some form of healing. The medigun will be randomized between the Vaccinator, Kritzkrieg, Quickfix, and stock.
  • Spy is the only character capable of sapping and disguising. He will always spawn with a sapper, and his melee weapons will always mini-crit from behind.
  • Outright useless weapons, like the Wrangler, are removed.

This keeps your support classes reliable in a pinch, and keeps your loadouts from feeling completely godawful. No more crying for a Medic and only getting a random guy with a scorch shot. Rejoice!

Do you HATE your body, your weapons, your relationship, or employment status? We have a new mechanic that can fix at least TWO of these!

The Dice is a brand new pickup exclusive to Randomizer. Grab this enchanted cube of ivory and feel the refreshing surge of a new and scrambled loadout, along with full health and ammo! You will be transmogrified in the spot, fully strapped and ready to humiliate any opponent who underestimates the power of gambling mechanics in videogames.

Dice are also placed outside of your spawn rooms, so if you spawn with a loadout you absolutely hate, you can quickly shuffle it for a new one.

(Note: The text you see here is a placeholder, a fancy HUD is in the works!)

Experience all of these horrors and more, on ROULETTE!
This Randomizer map is set on a new Event version of Payload Chateau, now with a franken-dude to push!

Roulette features an asymmetrical take on randomizer, and a large, sprawling layout. There's lots of space to take combat encounters while you push your payload into the reanimator! Be warned, it definitely still explodes. Cut through caves, fight over cliffs, and hold your nests with random weapons. The world is your rotten oyster!

Check out the other Randomizer map, Frankenizer!

Frankenizer is part-gothic, part-ritualistic, and part-medical-waste. The map has two capture zones, which alternate pack and forth as the round progresses. You'll be rotating all over shop, cutting through a church with a large central air vent. This vent can take you to multiple spots of high ground, giving you the advantage over many parts of the map. Just be careful-- it's quite a high traffic area-- even when it isn't Sunday!

If you're all about that Halloween-themed mayhem, this PD map may be to your liking!

Deadlines are hard. If we had to guess, about 70% of you are still in grade school, so we know you hate them just as much as we do. BUT FEAR NOT! While our Halloween-themed homework may be turned in, it's still very much mutable! This mode and map is in beta, and therefore is a work in progress! There are known problems, and they will be increasingly hot-fixed as it's played. Notice something you think is a problem, or generally have feedback to give? Please use the discussions tab on the workshop page.

We hope you have fun!

@Diva Dan
This old video from 2012 has the audio cues I'm referring to, but there's a commentary on top of it, you can still hear the audio cues, however: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xP_hzAVzrg

The only thing is that I think the audio cues were used on the Arena version of Randomizer, which is the one I mostly played. I think SOME sound effects could be added (spawning and killing an enemy), but the "ending round" music might be too close in being a copyright problem with the Magnum Force theme.

I think these audio cues wouldn't be good on a Payload variant of Randomizer, but it would be amazing if it was on an Arena version of sorts. There are other things on TF2 that uses songs from classes, but this one might be difficult due to the whole Magnum Force thing.

I might be able to find some old gameplay footage by looking the depths of Youtube. I do know it was a popular Randomizer server (probably official from the mod creators), that even had custom plugins that stated information about other player's backpacks and even had a message if someone with a Community item joined.

Ooh, I’m not familiar, I only really played randomizer back in like 2014 and never played a plugin with that feature; do you have a video of it? Making sniper rifles more obvious in general sounds like a fun idea

I need this in my life. One thing that I loved about the SourceMod Randomizer were the Meet the Sniper audio cues. Will that be in? Note that those cues were obtained from the actual Meet the Sniper video, and not from the recent leak.
Lizard Of Oz  [skapare] 11 sep @ 22:56
We're considering putting that back.

aw man i kinda liked being able to do certain taunts with other class animations. it was cursed but funny as hell.

Randomizer 1.2 patch notes:

- Demoman shields are now attached to everybody’s left arm in both first- and third- person.
- Visual improvements to the cross-class animations.
- Fixed being unable to headshot under certain conditions.
- Fixed a bug that caused the Dice Reroll to happen twice in a row.
- Fixed botkillers being stuck in your face.
- Purchasable taunts and the post-round loser state now use your class' base animations.
- Fixed inconsequential console spam on 32-bit Windows servers.
- Fixed minor code execution errors.
- Improved performance.
- Community servers can now create server addons, similar to VSH. The folder is scripts/vscripts/randomizer_addons/

There are no changes to the map itself in today's update.

This is just peak. I've never seen randomizer just built into a map. All of you did amazing work. And I hope to see more amazing things from you!
nedoplatek 9 sep @ 9:32
To be completely honest, randomizer would benefit from having a map pool of already existing maps but reskinned.

You can't taunt unless you have a weapon that your character would normally have, and pulling out engineer's PDA sometimes makes him go into reference pose
