Description
Overview

This mod is designed to rework the gameplay of Theodora to be more powerful, more interesting, and more historically flavorful. Best paired with the Civilizations Expanded mod for balance purposes, one of my favorite mods which unfortunately never got around to overhauling the final batch of leaders.

Metanoia

Founding a Religion grants an Apostle. Holy Sites provide Culture equal to their adjacency bonus. Farms provide +1 Faith to Holy Sites and Hippodromes. Trade Routes gain +1 Gold and +1 Culture for every 5 tiles traveled. Cities with Holy Sites may purchase buildings for 25% less Gold and walls with Faith.

The New Byzantium

Under Basil II, Byzantium is the quintessential crusader state. Theodora thus stands as a juxtaposition, a representative of Byzantine spiritual and cultural life. To this end, she brings an exciting option to the table, but one which can certainly be elaborated on! For most of Byzantine history, the empire was defensively inclined, deriving power more from diplomacy and economic control than conquest. In Theodora, I saw an opportunity to not only represent her story, but integrate her design with something more true to Byzantium's fundamental character.

Empress of the noblest shroud, stand strong against your foes and open the path for a spiritual awakening. Once a lowly actress, you now have a unique opportunity to weaponize the tools of the Eastern Roman Empire to enact divine will. Reform society toward social justice, give charitably to uplift those in need, and spread word of the true religion to all who will listen. With the church, treasury, and the charms of a performer at your disposal, the world is your stage to play.

@karstenhays Glad to hear of your excitement! I'm looking forward to having her in my games as well.

As for Plantations, I can see the appeal, but I think they clash a bit with the flavor of Byzantium. Plantations did not feature strongly in the Byzantine economy and have pretty different historic connotations vs farms. Additionally, limiting the mechanic to Farms helps to retain some aspect of the city planning puzzle that I enjoy.

I am so excited to try this out!! thank you!! if you ever make any adjustments in the future, would you consider adding Plantations for holy sites adjacency in the future? I am so so so grateful for your mods!
