Khazad Bronze & Casari Steel

Description
Khazad Bronze — a rediscovered dwarven secret: copper + tin + nickel refined into a golden alloy. Smeltable from bars or ores; tougher and pricier than regular bronze, forgeable into any gear.

Casari Steel — named for the Dwarves in Quenya, “Casari”; a blue-grey nickel steel made bars-only from steel + nickel. Sharper and sturdier than standard steel, suitable for all weapons and armor.

Hm, with what Cascadian Caveman said, done some initial testing in the Arena and it does seem that casari steel behaves somewhat oddly. It seems to more often lose to steel, and the lost tends to happen near instantly. While when winning, it's more drawn out. Casari also seems to take more damage/ gets deformed easily.

Testing was done with the following: Skilled fighter (only skill given), full plate (mail+breastplate+helm+greaves+high boots+gauntlets) with a halberd.

^ With this being the case, it looks like Khazad Bronze has properties closer to gold than to a weapons-grade metal, and Casari Steel is more on par with vanilla bronze, give or take.

Let me know if I'm misreading the data or if the way material properties works has changed in the Steam version, though! And feel free to reach out to me if there's anything I can help with, here - I love the mod otherwise, and this oughta be an easy fix.

Looks like there might be an error (missing a zero?) in the actual material properties of the metals in this mod. Correct me if I'm wrong or if I'm missing something, but from what I've gathered from the raws:

Khazad Bronze has shear values of 70k yield, 140k fracture, 500 strain at yield, and impact values of 110k yield, 220k fracture, and 1600 strain at yield.

Vanilla Bronze, meanwhile, has shear values of 172k yield, 241k fracture, and 420 strain at yield, and impact values of 602k yield, 843k fracture, and 523 yield.

Casari Steel, meanwhile, has shear values of 152k yield, 250k fracture, and 500 strain at yield, and impact values of 121k yield, 260k fracture, and 1,400 strain at yield.

Vanilla steel has shear values of 430k yield, 720k fracture, and 556 strain at yield, and impact values of 1,505k yield, 2,520k fracture, and 940 strain at yield.

Love the materials so far, the bronze has a lovely colour and having an upgraded steel to give value to an otherwise useless metal, though I wouldn't mind being able to make furniture and other stuff with these metals as to match the decor.

Any plans on making other sorts of fantasy alloys that require either complicated production chains or specific and harder to acquire resources?

Love this, is there a way to enable this in an existing world?

Khazad Bronze looks beautiful and i love the idea of a golden armor that is not too heavy!
also i love the idea of a slightly better alloy than steel, and Casari Steel gives a nice use for the 'useless' nickel, i just dont dig the color.. maybe a darker bluesh tint would looks better? anyway, nice job mans!

As of today, 15/08/2025 I can confirm that this mod works properly. I was surprised to see that even dwarves who wander into my tavern and are not citizens of my fortress will equity Khazad Bronze and Casari Steel armor.
