Description
Overview

This mod is designed to overhaul the gameplay of Julius Caesar to be more powerful, more interesting, and more historically flavorful. It is a direct alteration of the Civilizations Expanded mod, which is required for this mod to be playable.

Rubicon

Gain a Governor title from each of your first three cities. Receive full XP from Barbarians. Melee units ignore Movement costs of terrain and features. Legions gain +1 Charge. Defeated enemy units grant bursts of Gold. Upon capturing a Capital for the first time, receive an extra Wildcard policy slot and convert all Military slots in any Government to Wildcard slots.

A Problem with No Good Answers

More than military genius, Julius Caesar's role in destroying the institutions of the Roman Republic cemented him as a cornerstone of western culture. Naturally, I was disappointed to find that Civ 6 reduced his legacy to: beat barb, make beeg gold. Civilizations Expanded offered an alternative. But this solution had its own issues. The mod left Caesar dreadfully underpowered. With pitiful gold and great general point generation, Caesar had almost no advantages toward earning his wildcard slot, working unreasonably hard just to get what Greece got for free. So weak was Caesar, that I found any game in which he spawned as an enemy AI was destined to see him crippled if not completely wiped out. I hoped to see a buff in a future update.

But unfortunately, the creator vanished. The mod has remained without update for the past couple years. Even worse, Caesar was actually changed by Firaxis since the creator's disappearance, leaving the leader description inaccurate and the hidden base game effects awkwardly disjointed alongside the modded ones. I looked for a solution to my problem in other mods. Indeed, Caesar is one of the most popular leaders in the game for alterations. But all of these mods neglected the historical aspects of Caesar that I believed were the most critical to his legacy.

Representing Caesar's Legacy

This mod represents my attempt to fix and overhaul Julius Caesar within the design space of Civilizations Expanded. I have fixed the disjointed ability complex between Civilizations Expanded and the base game, strengthened his early game to make him competitive with other civs, and thematically integrated all key historical aspects of his legacy. It tells his story; from his rise to power as a political conspirator in the first triumvirate, to his ludicrously profitable and impressive military campaigns in Gaul, to the moment he crossed the Rubicon and broke Roman democracy. In doing so, I hope to give his legacy the justice it deserves.

I will try reinstalling CE now I guess...done and as expected same result.
Honestly I have no clue what the issue is. It obviously seem to work for other users and even if I try to remove all variables it still doesn't work for me.
I do have Leaders animations disabled(including BLPs). But I believe I did it after my first comment in here. I also don't know why this error would be related to animations.
It also is very strange that only this one doesn't work for me. All your other Civ Legacies leaders should have the same methodology no?
Ultimately it's not a big deal if I can't use your Julius Caesar. I just like to try and fix an issue when I am faced with it.

I am and was using CE. 2036753727
As I said all your other Civ Legacies - Leader work(Elizabeth I, Sejong, Ludwig II, Sundiata Keita and Theodora)
If I wasn't using CE Lite, wouldn't they all share the same issue?

After reading your reply I tried again before updating.

I disabled all other mod but those in those test. With the addition of Enhanced Mod Manager but I also tried with it disabled, same result. I tried with just CE and Civ VI Legacies: Julius Caesar enabled. Same result. I tried with 0 game mode enabled and small map size. Same result.

I unsibscribed, went in my folder and made sure 3536328924 is gone. It was. Resubscribed.
Did the same test again. Same result.
The game still gets an error when I create a game. Error - One or more Mods failed to load content

Yay, thanks for the fast responses! I'll run another game later to see how he feels now, before patch I absolutely steamrolled my whole continent, maybe now he'll be more in line with the rest ;p

Thanks for notifying me, I missed that! Any type of unit should be able to trigger the effect now.

As I was also considering the Gold bonus might be too strong, I've scaled back the intensity for balance purposes.

Hi, the description seems to be a little inaccurate still, only units defeated by melee units grant gold - which IMO is enough, right now Julius feels absolutely OP in the early game and doesn't need even more gold generation.

Hmmm, this is a mysterious issue as the mod continues to function just fine on my end. Will update if I identify any cause that could explain this but the code for leaders is fairly self-contained with Julius Caesar only directly interacting with the CE mod, and successfully, so it's hard to imagine what could be the problem. Perhaps you downloaded CE Lite? For now, I can only guess.

This mod is failing to load content for me. I tried starting a game with only CE and your legacy leaders enabled. All your other legacy leaders work fine but load error when Julius Caesar is enabled.
Jesus Christ. Finally, FINALLY someone picks up the torch. Thank you, king.
