TQ-Retold

Description
TQ-Retold at its core aims to overhaul and balance many systems of the base game to improve upon build diversity and overall player options.

The mod is still very much work in progress.
Your feedback will be much appreciated and helps to iterate and develop TQ-Retold further.

For any new players: Use the custom map versions with "cm_..." in their name. The other versions will be discontinued with patch 0.7.0!

You want to import your regular (bounce) TQ-Retold characters into custom map versions? Please refer to the following Pastebin:
TQ-Retold patch 0.6.0[pastebin.com]

PSA: There is a save issue due to both "cm_..." versions using the same map data. Never switch between them on the same character or progress will get wiped! Please vote for the solution that you would prefer:

A brief rundown of what this mod changes
  • Removal of (hopefully) all damage type immunities. Enemies which used to be immune to one damage type are now still resistant to it. See the Changelog for further information.
  • New features: New shrine mechanic called "Shrine of Challenge", which replaces bleed retaliation shrines from act 2 normal onwards and spawns in a hard and rewarding group of enemies to fight. These enemies are based upon enemies found in their respective acts and per act there is a pool of 5 different enemy groups with various drops like Epic/Legendary items, Monster Infrequents, Relics/Charms, Formulas or even Respec Potions. Also introduced a new shrine called "Shrine of Riches", which replaces health restoring shrines and grants a respectable amount of gold that scales with the players level among other things.
  • Loot container improvements: Regular chests and boss chests now drop a higher quantity and quality of loot on average. This is basically a custom inbuilt "lite" version of the popular Loot+ mod.
  • Mastery tweaks: Overhaul of many existing abilities and passives, introduced a bunch of new skills, buffed niche and underperforming stuff, but also nerfed overperforming abilities. New niche abilities to introduce extra possibilities of building and min-maxing your character.
  • Core mechanics rebalance: Health and energy regeneration tweaks with increased potion cooldowns to combat potion spam, 4 skill points per level, increased monster health scaling, racial defense reduction, etc.
  • Monster Infrequent rebalance: Many items were overshadowed by just a few MI’s. Underused MI's were buffed to make them desirable for certain builds and introduced 9 new weapon MI's to fill some niches. No nerfs for strong MI‘s though, since „chase items“ are always fun.
  • Epic and Legendary item overhaul: Basically the same thing as with the MI’s, but also tweaked a few existing set bonuses and added some new ones. Ajusted loot tables to allow for better target farming of uniques and no more epic difficulty uniques in legendary.
  • 158 new epic and legendary items with various custom skills (for now “only” armor pieces, shields, rings and amulets… weapons will follow soon™).
  • Smarter item affixes: Rebalanced the affix weights to make less desirable ones less common (like energy, reduced requirements on weapons, strength on staves, etc.), while also improving those mods numerically. Throwing weapon affix pool has been reworked to no longer use the same affixes as axes and many more small changes. Addition of over 100 entirely new affixes to grant more options when building your character.
  • Artifact rebalance in the same vein as the MI changes. Also adjusted many artifact skills / abilities in order to make them more relevant. Every Artifact has its own new pool of thematic completion bonuses.
  • Charms and Relics are of course also overhauled. Changed many completion bonuses and added a lot of new ones as well. Addition of 15 entirely new Charms from a large variety of enemies to further enhance build options.
  • Miscellaneous: Animation changes to help with the flow of combat, broken items have been removed, MI's now display their affixes and have a drop sound similar to epic and legendary items, bosses are always of their highest level variant and have a greater chance of wielding epic or legendary weapons, camera is fully zoomed out when starting the game and many other small tweaks.
  • Optional XMAX map: 3x normal enemy spawns (bosses not included as this breaks some quests) and experience penalty of 40% to make it somewhat balanced. This is still ~180% experience compared to vanilla.
  • Lots of Bugfixes: Making unobtainable items obtainable, fixing broken stats on items, etc.
  • Implements other mods: The poison/vitality based staves mod by @Aainiikkusu, various skill and mesh fixes by @Catnyss and the More Space mod by @nargil66.

What am I currently working on for patch 0.7.0?
  • New unique weapons
  • Playtesting and balance

What will this mod possibly entail in the future?
  • New Unique and MI Items
  • New Relics / Charms / Artifacts
  • Even more new skills
  • Further adjustment of MI drop rates - some are absurdly rare.
  • Adjustment to the epic / legendary reforging system
  • Adjusted quest rewards
  • Mythic uniques and refracted skills
  • Standalone hard-mode version

How to install

Simply subscribe to this mod.
Under "Play Custom Quests" you will find the "cm_tqretold ~ World01.map".
(or "cm_tqretold_xmax ~ World01.map" if you want to play the xmax version)
Create a new character and run one of the maps.
The "non-cm" maps are bounce versions, which will be discontinued with patch 0.7.0.

The mod should update itself whenever a new patch is released.
You can however also force to update it by unsubscribing and resubscribing in case the automatic updates don't work.

BEWARE:
Every time you go back to the main menu or when starting the game anew, you have to relaunch TQ-Retold through "Play Custom Quest" before you continue playing your main campaign character.
Playing a modded character without TQ-Retold, might result in missing skillpoints and items.
Unfortunately newly introduced items such as epics and legendaries will get deleted if the character is loaded in without TQ-Retold!
These items will also get deleted if they are in the "Transfer Area" of your stash when you load in a character without the mod!

Compatibility

  • DLC's might not be needed when playing TQ-Retold. This is untested as of now.
  • Multiplayer works. All connected players need the same version of TQ-Retold!
  • Steam achievements are still fully funcional.
  • TQVault is semi functional. Textures and descriptions of newly added or changed items are missing so it is really awkward to use. As far as i know nothing gets deleted or "corrupted". Use at your own risk!

Additional Notes
  • Make sure to disable steam cloud saves by right clicking on TQ:AE in your steam library and navigating to Properties. This feature never worked even in vanilla TQ and can cause issues with your save files.
  • Updates will happen whenever stuff is ready.

That would be a good compromise.

The normal map and xmax map do not share the storage and transfer area or the relic vault. They are like two different mods.
I would really suggest that you make a single version with X2 and an increased hero spawn rate.

@hedgehoglock57 You can use the Nexus Mods version of installing the mod and only place the desired version in custommaps folder. To fix this I have 2 options: Either bundle the entire map data with the mod, which would bloat the size of well over 1GB or split the mod in two and tell people to only use one version.

Unfortunately, that just happened to me by mistake...
Is there a way to have only the xmax map in the custom maps window, or can the order at least be changed? I would like to have the xmax map in first place.
Or if there is the option to subscribe to either the normal or the xmax map. Or just make a single version with X2 and an increased hero monster spawn rate.

@hedgehoglock57 Pets won't trigger it. Haven't tested how reflection or retaliation interacts with it. You could easily test it with an accomplished character though.
hedgehoglock57 10 hours ago
Just to be sure. Pets can't trigger Obliteration and Essence Drain when killing monsters, right? And what if monsters kill themselves through Retaliation/Reflection?

This is hilarious. In 30 minutes I organized all my stuff I've been hoarding for all these years! All thanks to your mod. :)

Yup that's an awesome tool for stash management and completely invalidates the need for mules. Basically infinite stash size and very customizable. It also works with TQR to some extend.
