The Drift: System Setting

Description
Far beyond the reach of stable Terran authority lies the Corvalis system—known locally as The Drift...

At the heart of this isolated star system burns Amyth, a pale, violet-hued star that illuminates a cluster of diverse worlds. Ten planets orbit this star, including an unusual number of habitable, Earthlike environments. Some settlers believe it’s luck. Others whisper it’s fate.

The system’s true draw, however, lies deep within the Perihelion Drift Zone, a narrow and deadly orbital belt where stellar heat threatens to vaporize anything that strays too far inward. Within this hazard zone lies the galaxy’s rarest and most valuable resource: Aetherite. Essential to the operation of Extreme Range Jump Drives (ERJDs), Aetherite is what makes travel between stars feasible—but collecting it borders on suicidal. Ships that dare to mine the Burn Line must be shielded, agile, and expendable.

First surveyed by unmanned probes, The Drift is now home to scientists, colonists, opportunists, and outlaws. Terran governments have a stake, but little control—relying on corporate agents and black ops more than official fleets. Here, law is barter, and survival is political. Over time, a patchwork of settlements, outposts, and industries has emerged, shaped by the cultures and ambitions of Terra's children.

From the temperate ocean world of Thalessia to the desert-blasted surface of Dünenreich, to the tidally-locked haven of Caer Caldwen, The Drift offers every extreme. Even the moons, like Oni—the iron-rich red sphere shrouded in toxic, oxygen-laced frost—demand caution and respect.

Now, with trade networks forming and power structures in flux, the system stands at a crossroads. Some seek profit. Others, knowledge. And a few seek dominion.

You are among the latest to arrive. Your legacy begins here.

I will add details here later. Still looking for a good place to wiki this game world for player reference.

The setting adds new resources, refined items, new components and blocks based around the Aetherium tech that drives the lore.

NOTES
1. We have been test playing in the Drift for a few months now and I felt it was time to release the setting. Still adding things to the mods and will make a SE2 version when that time comes.

2. I have removed all the optional QoL, tweaks and block mods for the setting to lighten the mod load of the game and allow for players to add their mods of preference.

FAQ
1. Use collectors in the accretion disk of the star, planetary rings (just not Valkaris, its rings are part of the model) or in the atmospheres of the gas giants to acquire the resources they contain.

2. You will need to do some engineering to harvest Aetherite from the solar accretion disk as the damage radius of the star is larger than the disk. Armor up, use jump drive waypoints, send drones, do what ever it takes but don't get to deep into the PDZ or you'll cross the "Burnline" and flame out as you are pulled into Amyth.

Hey thanks, looking forward to the update!

My local work copy saves are acting the same as well. All accept one of my test copies has no hierarchy. There may have been an update to something used in the save that broke it. I'm so sorry. I will attempt to fix it as soon as I can.

I'm looking into it. You're right, the planets are in there actual positions with no RSS functions are working. I don't even see the star. This was not the case when I uploaded the system. I will get a patch up asap when I figure out what is going on.

yeah it does, but i wanted to check out the rss set up in creative but the system doesnt show up to allow me to look at the details, just the static planets. I dont see hierarchy of planets or anything

It is supposed to be set up. Should take you to a spawn location list when you change it to survival.

is this supposed to be an already set up world? whenever i try to load it doesnt show any proxy planets just the base planets spread across

I do intend to add NPC structures and PoI to the setting.

The distances between the planets lead us to believe that without the speed mods it would be a bit to cumbersome to get around. Feel free to remove them from your save if you so choose.

This isn't really a scenario so there is no "task". The project was a way to channel a need to do something creative (I have a brain deadening job IRL), I came up with lore for a game we were playing but it was just in my head so I made this.

I do appreciate feed back. I'm trying to convince my partners to do a RP server for the setting so that the players can make the history of the system.

I would recommend removing the speed mods from the required list as well, as some players have personal preferences when it comes to speed mods. I, for example, would throw them out without hesitation and use my favorites.

Are there missions? What is the player's task?
