Description
Overview

This mod is designed to rework the gameplay of Sejong to be more powerful, more interesting, and more historically flavorful. Best paired with the Civilizations Expanded mod for balance purposes, one of my favorite mods which unfortunately never got around to overhauling the final batch of leaders.

Hangul

Governors grant +25% Great People points to their cities. Each Great Writer grants a Eureka and each Great Scientist grants an Inspiration. Libraries gain +2 slots for Great Writings; Universities gain +2 slots for Great Music. After unlocking Printing, all Farms gain +1 Culture and +2 Yield from each adjacent specialty district, excluding Seowons.

A New Take On Sejong

Sejong's default leader ability is often regarded by the community as among the most boring designs in the entire game. It vaguely captures what he's about but is ultimately too simplistic and fails to make you approach Korea very differently. This is tragic, as Sejong himself is one of the most diversely accomplished and renowned leaders in world history! My design seeks to overhaul and increase the depth of Sejong's gameplay, highlight the most interesting aspects of his rule, and encourage the player to act as he would.

Guide your people to victory, leading them by example in the mold of the ideal sage king. Fill your government with the most talented minds of every discipline, bring prosperity through scientific and cultural innovation, and cultivate an enlightened, harmonious society through a script that will uplift even the common farmer. Should you manage to raise a nation that has mastered virtue and wisdom, Korea will surely shine like Heaven above all others, a beacon of order in a world of chaos.

Compatibility

I tested this mod with an extensive mod list and experienced no issues. The only mods which would likely conflict are ones which attempt to alter the same subject. Therefore, it would be unwise to run two Sejong reworks at once. Otherwise, I have programmed integrated features so that players who enjoy the Urban Complexity series can have a more seamless experience. If you play with District Expansion: Campus, I have extended the Great Work slots bonus to the School and Academy buildings. If you play with District Expansion: Entertainment in which the Entertainment districts generate Gold, Farms will acquire a +2 Gold adjacency bonus from these districts as a unique yield.

Yeah, IIRC p0kiehl also ran into a similar problem, I hoped maybe someone came up with a fix since then, but not much can be done about the game engine itself... I agree though, even with that bug/feature both Koreas are quite strong.

Thank you! :p4g_love:

The great work slots problem is seemingly a bug which Firaxis decided to re-purpose as a "feature" when they made Sundiata's marketplace slots mechanic. I had wondered if the issue was a unique quirk of Sundiata or if reconstructing it would allow the mechanic to function normally. This report confirms that unfortunately it is a universal issue baked into the hard code and I'm uncertain if there's a way to fix it using regular tools.

Thankfully, I don't think it's terribly disruptive to Sejong's design, as he may be one of the strongest civs for playing tall in the game and the extra slots are most impactful early on when you might be short on space for writers.

Hey, extra great work slots don't work in cities conquered from another civs, even if they didn't have a campus at the moment of conquest. Besides that, absolutely great job taking over from p0kiehl, this feels just like civ expanded.

I've subscribed to all 4 of your civs modification mods (and Civs Expanded) and have found they have really made Civ VI more emersive and enjoyable. I've had no compatibility problems and find the game is much more dynamic and interesting. Please do some more "Legacy" civs.

All good!

I get that. Maybe it would be too strong. I hope I'm not bugging you too much with my feedback I'm just really happy that someone is doing those leaders and I really wanna support your effort.

Thank ya, glad you enjoy!

As for Seowons, they have their own unique bonuses built in by default for mines and farms and allowing them to gain +1 culture and +2 science from farms as well seems to nullify much of the built in design tradeoff for Seowon placements (in addition to making an already strong science civ even stronger). By the time the yield bonuses come online with printing, you should have several other districts unlocked to play with.

@Quazikolt allright, will try it out now. don't know if "excluding Seowons" feels right with me since this is usually the first district Korea is gonna build. otherwise I think you did a great job with this mod. especially the free Eurekas and Inspirations upon getting Great Writers/ Scientists feels more fun than I would have expected

Alright, I think I've got it at a reasonable balance now. Mod updated.

Hmhm, I found +1s to be a little underwhelming when I tried that. Maybe +2 is the happy middle. I'll run experiments.
