Rustillery's vintage hats

Description
This is my very first project zomboid mod.

Overtime I have found that the variety of headwear found in the game and workshop is kind of lacking. So here is my contribution to changing that. A simple collection of hats with both a lot of style and functionality. For any of your vintage, historical or steampunk needs when creating your fit for the apocalypse. headwear from throughout history and different cultures, for you to fit into a unique outfit. These are also not necessarily just silly costumes, instead I try to make them authentic representations of these hats, so you can wear them for other than just the memes.

Most hats can be found from the world, they should be found on zombies, or you can also craft them yourself. A few hats have multiple ways to wear them, for example The flatcap can be worn backwards. This mod adds a some goggles, with extremely versatile ways to wear them. You can wear them on your eyes, forehead, on top of your hat, or around your neck. They are slightly protective, so you can have extra bite and scratch protection in style! You can use the mechanic goggles for welding, so you can have those always at hand even when not used.

The mod includes:
(Certain items have the slot typed they are equipped in)
(The "vanilla unfriendly" hats have now been separated from the main mod, they can be enabled from the mod list . Every hat moved to the other part will be listed in italic text . This includes joke hats, game reference hats, and hats that don't make sense to be found in the middle of rural Kentucky.)

Another feature of this mod, is the old welding mask. It has the ability to be lifted up, off of your face. Something hasn't been done in vanilla or any mod as far as I know. Just a detail that I would really like, so I made it a reality!

I try to make the special cosmetics compatible with as many outfits as possible, so a lot of items are equipped in the ring slots for example. Aviator goggles on the neck, are equipped in a ring slot, so they could be paired with both scarves and Shemaghs for example.

I additionally aim to fix a problem with protection. In vanilla your options are really just either wearing a bulky helmet, or practically no protection at all. Most of my hats have some protection values, and are patchable with tailoring. Then you can actually wear average headwear while still being protected.

The headwraps can be equipped in under hats, adding protection with any hat you wear. Chainmail and Metal are more protective, but the others are patchable.

As said, this is my first mod, so bugs and issues are to be expected. Let me know if anything comes across. I am also open for suggestions.

Thanks a lot to the modding community for helping me out with this mod, without them I could not have achieved this!

Forgot to add though, keep up the good work. The mod is very cool and I know a lot of people who would love this. Take breaks as needed. This game has issues and making mods for it can be exhausting.

Unfortunately, still getting the same error at the start and also a large stack of errors when hovering over the "Hat Playing card"

@Rachel L if you look at the list of hats in the description, every hat written in italic text is a joke hat

@DrVonBoogie there are at least shemaghs from base B42. Then there is also the "expanded bandanas" mod, and "big scarves" mod.

Finally got to updating this mod. I am very sorry about this huge delay. To be honest, I could not initially find the problem, and then got really unmotivated, and maybe a bit burnt out. However I finally got to working on this again, and found the issue. And to be honest, it was far simpler than I... The B41 version of the joke hats had an empty script file, that would overrite the file from the base mod. Essentially the file with every hat in it got replaced by nothing.

Again, very sorry. I'm fairly certain it is fixed now, I tested it on B41 myself. But if any more issues do come up, report back to me.

Cheers! :dealerrizz:

There seems to be a bug in the latest build where the placed helmet models are switched with the flatcap model.
