Das Book

Description
Tired of looking like a nerd using printed tables & charts? Miss the old Nomograph mod from the Silent Hunter series? Then look no further, Das Book is here.

The actual title of the book is "Tables and Charts for the Uboat Commander". It contains a collection of useful information for those who choose to play the game in a more realistic/historical manner.

See screenshots for book contents.

Save game compatible.

Features/Details:
  • The Book is accessible in Map, Periscopes, UZO and Binocular views.

  • There are 2 instances of the book, 1 for the Map view and 1 for Periscope views. You can set each instance to a specific page/position/size. It will be remembered until game reload.

  • Move the book around screen via left-click and drag.

  • Right-click the book to quickly close it as an alternative to the toggle buttons.

  • Resize the book by dragging the scale icon in the lower right corner.

  • The book has a Table of Contents page to quickly select the desired Table/Chart. There is also a shortcut at the bottom of each page to quickly return to the ToC.

  • Each page has a left/right arrow to manually scroll through the book.

  • The book in the Map view has a checkbox in the Table of Contents to toggle the Nomograph. You can drag the Nomograph by the wooden handle. The scale icon is on the right side of the wooden handle.

  • You can move the Toggle Buttons via right-click and drag.

  • In the event you accidentally drag the book or the nomograph off-screen, you can middle-click on any of the corresponding toggle buttons to reset their position & size to default.

  • Periscope range tables work for both the Realistic & Extended periscope magnification settings, although the extended preset is meant to only be used with the More Accurate Periscope Sights mod by DarkRaven. See below for more context on which of the two tables to use.

Note about scale icons: After the first time you hover over them, they will disappear and only reappear when you mouse over them. This is by design.

Note About the Distance Tables
We chose to include two distance tables for what we believe are the most used and most sensible periscope arrangements.

The 1st table labeled "Realistic Periscope" references the historical 1/16° graticule, hence it is meant to only be used with the periscope magnification set to Realistic. This table works with the default/vanilla periscope. If you want a better experience using the realistic preset, use the Realistic Periscope Sight mod as it features a wider view and slightly more accurate graticule.

Do not use the More Accurate Persicope Sights mod with the realistic preset if you want to use the "Realistic" table. It changes the graticule to be in mrad, which will make all readings off by 9%.

The 2nd table labeled "More Accurate Periscope" references an mrad graticule. It is meant to only be used with the More Accurate Periscope Sights mod with a periscope magnification setting of Extended. No support for vanilla periscope magnification set to extended without this mod since it is a "easy mode" setting not within the scope of Das Book.

Note About the Shipping Routes Map
  • The convoy map is a temporary placeholder.

  • I created this map based off of the Silent Hunter 3 map. Sadly, SH3 has more shipping routes than UBOAT. Some routes will not correspond with UBOAT.

  • The routes are cumulative from 1939-1945. Some routes will only be availble at certain dates or not available at all. Some traffic may also appear outside of these lanes.

  • Use it as a generic reference when looking for potential hunting grounds.

The map will be updated in the near future to cover only the actual routes depicted in UBOAT.

Iron Cross Version
To remove swastika:
  • Navigate to the mod folder:
    \Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\494840\3419126557

  • In the Data Sheets folder, open Config.xlsx

  • Change the Censor value from False to True. Note, case sensitive.

  • Save/close file.
You can change this setting without the need to start a new game. Setting must be reapplied whenever a mod update occurs.

I checked the mod, and I can't make sense of cttbs graticule. Why not use one of DarkRavens periscope mods we linked? They're unparalleled.

amy pf the tables are usefull with ctbbs-wider-periscope-view V.3?(it have 10 instead of 100, but i think is calibrated as one of the other periscope mod)

>>> Any plans to add 'zero gyro' precalculated torpedo tables?
Came here just to ask about the same thing. Of course, I can always open it in a separate window, but it would be better in periscope.

Is it possible to get Nautical Miles for Speed/Distance/Time tables as well?

You can find what you've missed in the Note About the Distance Tables section of the description.

i may be missing something, but is there a reason i cannot option 1x, 2.5, 10x magnification for the More Accurate Persicope mod? The distance chart that is specific to that mod shows those magnification labels.

@Drexack Amazing work! Could you please add more reference tables from Silent Hunter 5 mods for example?
