More Accurate Periscope Sights - WIDE

In 1 collection by DarkRaven
More Useful Optics
3 items
Description
Calibrated to my bearing marker mod (not required) and DECAFBAD's Stadimeter mrad mod (also not required). Has a milliradian vertical scale and a degree horizontal scale.

Compatible with both Periscope Modes. Keeps, but relabels, the magnification levels for each mode.

Savegame compatible. Compatible for versions 2025.1+. May be incompatible with previous versions.

Information on markings:

"/17.45°" refers to the conversion of milliradian to degrees. Useful for the aspect ratio AOB method.

A giant heaping thank you to Tofof (Workshop: https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/id/tofof/myworkshopfiles/?appid=494840) for figuring out a workaround to the dim bearing illumination.

@Gambrinus That's an ... interesting way to calculate AOB. My best guidance would be to turn the optical length of degrees (adjusted for magnification) into mrad by multiplying by 17.45 (the amount of mrads in a degree). Multiplying that by distance in meters should get you the visible length in meters.

Empire class ships have a variable size, so comparing the claculated length vs the ID book might give incorrect and / or inconsistant results.

@LAntorcha I just can't seem to calibrate RAOBF, it's a nightmare, I tried going from 75% to 100% UI scaling and I just can't manage to set it right, also tried to multiply by constants, I don't know why the game requires so many modes that everyone use instead of just putting it as a feature in the game..

Does anyone know the constants to use for AOB calculations ?
(Visible length(meters) = distance(meters) * tan(angular length in degrees) * K)
where K = 0.215 for 6x, 0.945 for 1.5x.
Anyone knows for 2.5x and 10x?

@Alec Paen Sorry for the late response, Steam didn't notify me of your June 28th message. This mod only affects the periscopes and I don't recall what the vanilla values for the UZO and binos are, sorry.

@Wolf Unless something has changed, that should be correct, yes.

Hi! I just came back to play after a year or so, do I read right, that previous zoom level from 2.67 has been changed to 2.5? It tells me as well in the UI. 1x / 2.5x and 10x.

So I should use 2.5 in the range calculation instead of the old 2.67, right?

I figured out the periscopes, now I wonder what the magnification of the UZO and binoculars is with the realistic setting enabled? Or does this mod not affect them?

Thank you :)

It's important to note that the mrad should be counted from where the waterline of the ship is in the ID book, not it's actual waterline, as it can be high or low in the water.
DarkRaven  [author] 23 Jun @ 5:31am
@Alex Paen (ljekio) Yes, it should be calculate out to ~ ( mast height / mrad ) x magnification in km, where magnification on Realistic is 1 for 1.5x and 4 for 6x. For meters, it would be 1000 and 4000 respectively.

Calculating distance in meters, of course
