ISL Small Grid Printer Type 2

Description
This is an Example set up of an ISL Small Grid Printer Type 2.
Previously, all small ISL grid ships were designed to be built using the Small Ship Printer Basic MK 3. However, newer designs will now be using this printer, with a slightly different layout (one less piston required) for easier setup and the new Small Grid Printer Projection Arm.

Taking a blueprint of the multi-grid factory structure, and trying to project it onto a LG projector results in only the small grid part showing up. I am guessing this has to do with the number of blocks being more on the SG part than any of the LG parts. So the Projector arm is a separate blueprint, which can be found under "required items".

The Small Grid Printer Projection Arm uses a smaller merge block and has the additional function of including a conveyor connection to the printed ship, for better convenience when building hydrogen fueled designs or filling weapons & ammo containers.

Building the Printer in Survival

When building a Small Grid Printer Type 2 in survival, The advanced Rotor and projection arm will have to be added manually:

  1. Place an Advanced Rotor (large grid) on the piston facing the welders.
  2. Remove the rotor head and use the “Add small Head” button in the terminal of the rotor.
  3. Place a small reinforced conveyor on the small grid rotor head.
  4. Place a projector (facing towards the welders) on top of the conveyor block, so that it is not obstructing the conveyor opening
  5. Load the Small Grid Printer Projection Arm into the projector, align it with the blocks already placed and weld up all the parts.
  6. Grind the head off the hinge, so there is space for the one above it to fit.
  7. Grind down the red block, so that the small connector, conveyor and hinge head fall into place.
  8. attach the Hinge to the hinge head.

Controls

Although not strictly necessary, this example blueprint also includes toolbar buttons on the control seat (some of which may need to be re-added, if built in survival), which may be useful.
The projection arm includes the Projector Aligner script by Brianetta, which has 2 functions:

  1. Movement controls for the Control Seat and RC block on the projection arm are used to align the projection
  2. The main screen on the Control Seat shows information on the projector position and the number of blocks remaining.

ISL designs may require the projection arm to be either at 0 degrees, or rotated to 180 degrees, depending on the connector layout of the design, which is what buttons 2 and 3 are for.
If you are building the printer in Survival, you may have to set the Rotor limits to allow only 180 degrees of movement.

Toolbars

Toolbar 1

  1. Welders On/Off
  2. Advanced Rotor - Reverse
  3. Advanced Rotor - Attach
  4. SGP Projection Remote Control - Control
  5. Printer Piston - Reverse
  6. Printer Piston - Decrease Minimum Distance
  7. Printer Piston - Increase Minimum Distance
  8. Projector On/Off

Toolbar 2

  1. refuel Hinge Reverse
  2. Small Connector Switchlock

Printing one layer at a time

Once your projection is set up and aligned properly:

  1. Ensure Welders are turned Off
  2. Increase piston minimum distance to 10m (the maximum) - Toolbar 1, Button 7
  3. Extend the piston - Toolbar 1, Button 5
  4. Once the piston is fully extended, turn on the welders - Toolbar 1, button 1
  5. Reverse the piston direction, so it is set to retract - Toolbar 1, Button 5
  6. Retract the piston one step at a time - Toolbar 1, Button 6
  7. Ensure that all the blocks for each layer are fully built before moving to the next!
  8. When all the blocks in the projection are complete:
    • If Hydrogen is needed, use the small refueling arm or rear connector to connect tot he base’s conveyor system. Once filled, unlock.
    • If not Hydrogen is required, turn off the Merge block to Detach, and grind down any Red Blocks (they are temporary) on the ship/vehicle, or follow instructions on the Worksop page for that blueprint.

DrBossWatson, I had the same issue on the control seat after connecting the arm. you just need to recompile the script in the "SGP Projection Arm PB Align" block after attaching the arm.

Hi DrBossWatson,

Sorry, I'm not sure what you mean, the only group should be the welders.

What do I need to set in the SGP Projector group?

Thanks Spite, I can confirm it works (:

Hi fiby,

Sorry about that, I think the old version also had the same issue, I've updated the blueprint so that this one is only the large grid part, so you should be able to project it now.

Thanks Spite! newbie question, when I load up this blueprint on a large projector on survival I only see Small Grid Printer Projection Arm. Is there a setting I need to enable?

Hi Javil, probably going to be building anew, but as I do I'll be adding links to the pages for the old ships in the same role.

E.g. If I make a 4-drill miner with around the same cargo space, I'll put a link to it on the Myxini and Agna miner pages, so people can find the newer stuff that fits the same niche.

Are you updating the older small grid items or building anew?

That's cool, thanks for replying. I'm not ready for your new interceptor in my current game so I will continue with my existing setup. Looking forward to seeing the new collection!

Thanks Chrisbitz,
I hope you like the next set of them!
