Description
Restoring the Rightful Stature of Principality Tier Monarchs
So you wanna play as the Zulu Kingdom, intending to drive out those pesky Europeans from your homeland. At the 1836 start date, you would play as Dingane, King of the Zulu Kingdom and murderer of his half-brother, the great Shaka Zulu. Maybe this time you can turn the fortunes of the Zulu people, and make Dingane atone for his misdeeds.

So you boot up the game, and click on the Zulu Kingd...

Wait, did it say the country is an Absolute Principality? Whose leader is a princ..

Oh dear...

Paradooxxxx

It's Good to be King!
This mod adds a bunch of new, cosmetic Government Types that includes making every principality-tier monarchs outside of Europe to use the title of king, as many of the 'princes' in the game were historically called kings, but due to their Country Tier they are not called as such.

♪...and have your own world ♪

But it's Better to be Emperor!
Initially this mod began as only fixing these monarchs' titles, but eventually I realized that other countries that historically had emperors, such as Mexico, Haiti, and Gaza, are not called as such in-game due to their countries being the wrong Country Tier. One thing led to another, and now this mod also features several new Government Types for the sake of historical flavor around the map.

Always aim for the job you want

So Mexico and Haiti's monarchs now rightfully call themselves emperors. The princes of Ethiopia are now called Ras, with the poor ruler of Begemder calling himself emperor. Or when the Qing collapses, the Son of Heaven will no longer demote himself to king.

Some of these Government Types even have their own little flavor text.

Go on. Bow.

Are There Any Gameplay Changes?
The short answer is no and yes.

This mod is (in most cases) only cosmetic and the Country Tiers remain unaffected. I've also mapped the Government Types' succession to what you would expect from your laws (since Government Types can change the Transfer of Power, like how theocratic Montenegro's succession is hereditary). This mod is intended to only be a cosmetic flavor mod.

There are some exceptions to this, as it does not make sense for some Government Types to only be reskins of vanilla government types. The following are the few exceptions where the laws you have may not follow its typical Transfer of Power type:

- Lordship of Ireland: Monarchy but Dictatorial inheritance, like the Baltic Governorates in vanilla (This is Ireland's monarchy variant if it has Great Britain as its overlord)

- Imaama: Theocracy with any elective law that isn't Universal Suffrage, Anarchy, or Single-Party State will always force a Parliamentary Transfer of Power type. By default a game rule will always force Futa Toro and Futa Jallon to change their laws to switch to this gov. type on game start, but this can be disabled.

- Wadai, Fur, and Kanuri monarchies: Monarchy or theocracy governance principles laws will always force a Hereditary Transfer of Power Type

Compatibility
This mod does not touch or overwrite any vanilla files and code, so it should be safe with most mods. However, I can't guarantee full compatibility with mods that add their own government types (Victorian Flavor Mod should be fine, but other Total Conversions are more riskier to use together with this mod), or mods that have triggers that depend on Government Types (since the principality-tier kings are actually a new Government Type).

Language Support
Only English is supported in the base mod.

Chinese translation (中文翻译) is available through this mod: https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2880069248

Feel free to recommend new Government Types that you would like to see in the mod, and maybe some background on why you think it should be included. I'll add new ones based on suggestions on a case-by-case basis.

I have another idea, why not add unique dictator titles to certain countries? For example, Fuhrer for Germany, Caudillo for Spain, Duce for Italy, etc

Hye, just wanted to inform you about my problem, it seems that Better Politics Mod conflicted because i tested ALL of the mods at once without it, and it correctly called him a Shogun, i put BPM in the penultimate spot at the end of the load order and it shows the emperor instead of the Shogun....well, at least it has the correct person
SnowBear  [author] 1 Sep @ 11:42pm
@Mr.Wolf ♔ As for the load order thing, it should be lower in your playlist to be higher priority I believe (the shogun of Japan is still called shogun pre-Restoration when I tested with just this mod so it's probably a mod conflict)

As for the Mongolia thing, you made me realize the game actually doesn't give them a unique title. Now while the short-lived Mongolian kingdom during the game's time frame is called the Bogd Khanate ruled by the Bodg Khan makes me think the title of khan is more appropriate, it does seem other sources outside of Wikipedia also refer him as 'last khagan of Mongolia'

So I'll trust your judgement and use the title 'khagan' then

Besides the idea i gave, i want to know where should this mod be in the load order, because it seems the mod got something wrong because it calls the shogun of Japan 'Emperor'
Mr.Wolf ♔ 27 Aug @ 9:55pm
I have another idea for a government! If Mongolia is independent and it's a monarchy it can have a Khagan, which is an emperor, the Mongol Empire and other states had that as their ruler (NOT Khan, that title is a lesser one, Genghis was a Khagan, not a Khan)
Mr.Wolf ♔ 6 Aug @ 1:11pm
Oh! Thanks for clarifying! I was confused, sorry lol
SnowBear  [author] 5 Aug @ 9:09pm
@Mr.Wolf ♔ The 'Ethiopian Kingdom' gov type has nothing to do with the actual Ethiopia tag

It is instead a gov type given specifically to Kaffa and Welega, as to the best of my own research their rulers used the title of kings
Mr.Wolf ♔ 5 Aug @ 5:17pm
I saw the list and saw that you made Ethiopia a kingdom, why? It was an empire, with an emperor and all, not just a kingdom
Mr.Wolf ♔ 3 Aug @ 11:33pm
Oh thank the gods! I thought i had to do that EVERY TIME i started a campaign, it's good to know you only need to do that in games that already started before

Thanks for clarifying!
SnowBear  [author] 3 Aug @ 10:27pm
@Mr.Wolf ♔ All new government types added by this mod if your playthrough predates the mod update that adds it. The game will only update government types if the current one is invalid

So if you start a new playthrough then Bulgaria for example will always be a tsardom, but if its a playthrough that started before 4 August 2025 and you are a monarchy then you would need to force the game to invalidate your current government type (absolute monarchy -> constitutional monarchy or vice versa is one of the least hassle way to do it tho)

However, if you're let's say a republic in this save and then turn into a monarchy, the tsardom gov type will trigger

Unfortunately there's no other way besides me modifying the vanilla government types itself (which I would not do for compatibility reasons), it's just the nature of the game's code
