Morgana's DOS 2 Overhaul - Tactician ++

Description
What's in this mod, and why did I make it?

This mod is an extensive gameplay overhaul that edits a great number of DOS 2's skills, with the intention of improving some of the game's weakest skills so that they're at least situationally useful, while also knocking a few of the strongest skills down a peg.

Additionally, this mod adds over 100 new skills to the game, the goal of which was to more fully flesh out each combat ability discipline. I appreciate RPGs with greater complexity in character builds, and that was one aspect of DOS 2 that was not quite to my liking. Having a larger array of skills to pick from was one of the more straightforward ways I could remedy that.

I have slowly been developing this mod in my spare time since April 2020, although it had a shorter-lived predecessor that I worked on as far back as October of 2018. I initially started working on this overhaul entirely for my own personal use, but over the years since its inception, I have been fortunate enough to enjoy quite a few multiplayer campaigns with friends that motivated me to keep working on the mod, which resulted in its scope expanding quite a bit.

This mod is dedicated to the friends I've spent hundreds of hours playing this game with. I'm sharing it with the DOS 2 community publicly now as there is a chance it may provide others with a fraction of the fun it has provided us. In all likelihood, my definition of "balance" and "fun" will not meet with that of many other people. That is fine.

You may find that the implementation of a few aspects of my mod may seem arbitrary or inconsistent. To name one of a few examples, I made all of the hybrid incarnate infusion skill books available at Summoning skill vendors even though they would normally need to be crafted. I did this because I consider those skills to be such an integral part of Summoning, that I wanted them to be less of a hassle to obtain. I did not extend the same treatment to most other crafted skill books. This mod was developed for my group of friends and I've yet to learn how to make time grow on trees, so I cut a lot of corners wherever I deemed it sensible to do so. This mod is offered as is, and I have no plans to change some of its quirks, even though I am now making it publicly available.

If you're curious to learn a bit more about the thought process behind some of the changes and additions this mod contains, you can check the articles[www.nexusmods.com] section of this mod's Nexus Mods page.

What exactly does this mod change and add?

Morgana's DOS 2 Overhaul Spreadsheet[docs.google.com]

You can consult the above spreadsheet to check every change I have made to existing skills, as well as to see which skills this mod adds, and what they do. I believe I've documented every change I have made to skills within the spreadsheet, but it's possible one or two out of hundreds fell through the cracks. The spreadsheet also documents most changes I have made to status effects, talents and miscellaneous game settings.

I have provided two separate versions of this mod, which contain the following:

Morgana's DOS 2 Overhaul
(get it here)

• A skill overhaul and expansion
• Improvements to the clarity of existing skill tooltips
• Improvements to Unique items (with some exceptions, far too many of them were vendor fodder)
• A few new unique weapons and armour that you can find in Act 1
• An overhaul of Act 1 encounters, which has NPCs use skills added by this mod
• An as yet incomplete overhaul of Act 2 encounters (only a select few boss enemies have been altered)

Morgana's DOS 2 Overhaul - Tactician ++
(you're currently in the mod page for this version)

• Everything in the "regular" version
• A new, challenging "superboss" encounter, which you can tackle towards the end of Act 1
• Changes to Tactician difficulty, which include:
- Significantly higher armour values for enemies (exact values can be consulted on this mod's spreadsheet[docs.google.com])
- Every single NPC now has both the Opportunist and Savage Sortilege talents. Additional talents have been given to Act 1 NPCs.
- A more difficult version of this mod's Act 1 encounter overhaul, as select enemies have more dangerous skills at their disposal and/or status effects that activate upon engaging them in combat.
- Scrolls require the same proficiency to use as their skill counterparts would require to memorise (e.g. you'll need Aerotheurge 2 to use a Teleportation scroll)

The "Tactician ++" version of the mod is intended for players who are very experienced with Divinity Original Sin 2 and find the default Tactician difficulty to be easy. The armour values on enemies may seem overtuned, but they are entirely reasonable, if you've built your characters properly. The game has been beaten multiple times with the Tactician ++ version of my mod without players using any pre-battle setup, without using any of the strongest consumable items or cheesing encounters in any way. All the same, try it at your own peril.

Another fair warning: one of the overhauled encounters contains a very clear reference to a different game. It shouldn't be overly distracting, but if you're a stickler for immersion, you've been warned.

If I find the time and motivation to do so, I will finish overhauling encounters beyond Act 1 in 2025. If that comes to pass, I will make that update available here.

Compatibility

Do not run this mod in combination with other mods that edit existing skills and you should be fine.

Whilst I have not tested this exhaustively, you should know this mod is not compatible with a number of Larian's Gift Bag mods, such as Divine Talents and Pet Power. A few other Gift Bag mods, such as Animal Empathy and Fort Joy Magic Mirror can be run with this mod without any issue.

I recommend placing this mod at or near the bottom of your load order. It is not recommended that you activate this mod on an existing save file.

Known Issues

• Mod-added skill icons are white/blank (Fix: download and install the icon resource pack from the "Updates" files section[www.nexusmods.com] of this mod's Nexus Mods page)
• The "damage preview" on tooltips for on-hit enchantment-type skills, such as Firebrand or Thunderfury is inaccurate.
• Boneshatter will not set Crippled on Undead characters if its extra damage effect gets rid of their Physical Armour.

Credits

• Larian Studios for developing this game, which is one of my favourite RPGs.
• All my friends who I've played through many DOS 2 campaigns with, who were happy to play with my mod and provide feedback on it. You know who you are.
• Bowshatter for their NPC Spell Unlocker mod. That mod was what initially made me take an interest in creating my own skill expansion to DOS 2.
• Owlcat Games, Riot Games, Square Enix and Blizzard Entertainment, whose games I took artwork from to use as thumbnails for this mod's skills.
