I could see the potential with a really creepy 3D model. I just want it to be a special model and not just something from gmod itself. I want my addon to be a whole package experience. A mod that offers something no other mod does. As of right now I have something amazing (imo).
I mean, I could look into it. I'm not really sure how feasible it is though. Maybe I can find someone who knows a lot about rigging/animations. Then include them as a contributor to the project. I could provide them the paid model. Then they could handle that part of development.
I do hope you decide to do it at some point, i dont really agree with your reasons.
(aside from the difficulty of adding it, that is valid and i understand not doing it because of that alone)
A 2D sprite of sliding towards you is already kind of goofy, im not sure how a 3D model sliding towards you would look any worse, especially if its given a floaty animation.
(didn't mean actually make it noclip, just using those animations for a floating ghost kinda look)
Still an impressive nextbot though.
Fantastic work still.
I get why some people want him to be 3D, but it would honestly just look goofy. It would be a model running or walking at you. Taking a model and making it “black” is a cool idea in theory, but it comes with its own problems.
If I just set it to "noclip," I imagine it would cause issues with the navmesh. And at that point, it's just a model in a pose sliding toward you, which would look goofy and kill the creepy vibe. The reason it’s unsettling is because it’s 2D. If it were 3D, I don’t think it would work the same. This Nextbot was built from the ground up to function as a PNG. I can’t just slide in a 3D model at this point in development.
becomes chaotic
A standard citizen playermodel, darkened and made to look like a shadow man, and give it the animations of an idle unarmed player using noclip, so it still creepily floats towards you without having to worry about walking anims.
