Breencast Reverb

Description
Adds reverb effects to the jumbotron monitor sequences in both HL2 and EP1 inspired by (but not a replication of) the OG Xbox version of HL2. This mod includes less dramatic reverb and much less muffled audio aiming to compliment the original audio while providing reverb effects.

Warning:
This mod requires additional installation steps as seen below.
Certain Workshop files aren't allowed to override base HL2 files. You have to manually move a couple files from this addon into your "hl2/custom/" directory.
  1. Go to the Steam library where you installed the game.
  2. Navigate to
    \steamapps\workshop\content\220\3366771296
  3. Rename the files from "workshop_000.vpk" and "workshop_dir.vpk" and replace "workshop" with whatever such as "BreenReverb_000.vpk", "BreenReverb_dir.vpk"
  4. Move those files to where your game is installed in the folder
    \steamapps\common\Half-Life 2\hl2\custom
(create the folder if it isn't there already)

To test the effect for your own comparison, type in console "dsp_speaker 50" to revert to original audio and "dsp_speaker 51" to use mod's audio.
Only do this to toggle the effect for testing. The game will switch effects automatically and using this command can break that.

Disclaimer:
This mod includes files that could potentially become compatibility issues for other mods. I will try my best to maintain compatibility patches in unlisted uploads below.
The files that are impacted include:
  • scripts/dsppresets.txt
    ---Entity map patches---
  • background01
  • d1_trainstation_01
  • d1_trainstation_02
  • d3_c17_03
  • d3_citadel_04
  • ep1_background02
  • ep1_c17_01
  • ep1_c17_01a
  • ep1_c17_02b
  • ep1_c17_05
Due to a bug in the sound effects system, the Breencast dialogue will have dramatically less volume with a stereo sound configuration compared to a surround sound configuration.

This mod also implements a fix/addition to the first background map so that citizens spawn and scanners don't flashbang you. The last map "d3_breen_01" is affected by the reverb too with Breen's monologue to Eli but there should have been a reverb effect here anyway and it sounds good so I kept it.

@Too Long - Daft Punk

To my brilliant knowledge, I believe if you go to the debug console and enable "whoda_bugga 1" then it should fix the compatibility issues regarding the Negatron Ruben Microcontroller.

Does it work with his mod of him loosing it?

I don't know of any issue that would prevent you from launching the game. Remove all your mods including Workshop subscriptions and the "custom" folder, verify your game files then try playing.
