Canada Rework

Description
Since I am pretty busy lately - I made a lite version of the mod just containing resources and traits. You can find it here:
https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3305050932

Quick update 2024-08-04:

Upcoming changes:

Canada is now formed by the merging of upper, lower and the maritimes.

What Im currently working on:

Decision to buy HBC - Converts the HBC to a puppet named the Northwest territories
As you progress the journal entries, provinces will be added to confederation.

On the drawing board:
For example, when the push into manitoba reaches its boiling point, the northwest rebellion is triggered, creating a diplo play against the newly formed Metis. The end of the war ends with Canada annexing Manitoba from the NWT.

British Columbia will have it's own decision to join confederation. Either offering a large sum or waiting for them to go into significant debt.

Creation of the Yukon Territory - triggered once there's enough gold mines in the state.

Creation of NWT and Nunavut Territories. Once your puppet is reduced to it's last 2 remaining states, you will have the option to dissolve the NWT as a semi-independent entity.

Going to try an incorporate an alternate history scenario where Canada tries to settle the north. **** knows how Im going to figure out that b'y

Planned updates:

1) Red River Rebellion - JE complete. Centred on Manitoba.
Will be the introduction to the LBW JE.

2) Northwest Rebellion - In progress. Centred on Saskatchewan.

3) Northwest Mounted Police - In Progress. Centred on Saskatchewan and Alberta

4) Redesign of the Canadian Pacific Railway.
Going to try and prevent rails from being built in the west until the first 3 JEs are complete. As it wasn't until the Northwest Rebellion where CPR finally got it's funds to link the country together.

5) When the previous 4 JEs have been resolved - the final JE for the LBW journal chain will be available. This will hopefully include target mass migration of historic culture groups. For example, Ukrainians coming to Saskatchewan and Alberta as they were the really the only folks who knew how to work black soil farmlands.

Final rewards should be the removal of some provincial debuffs as well as some other events I have in mind. For example, Sir Wilfrid Laurier worked to prevent AB/SK from outgrowing Ont/Qb. Depending on the outcome of the LBW, the Industrial Revolution JE would either be focused in the East, West or spread across the provinces. Historically the Canadian industrial revolution was primarily in the east during the last decades of the 19th century. So choosing the east would increase migrations, urban throughput, etc in those states and debuff the west states urban throughput.

Anyways that's the plan for now. Will release it piecemeal over the next few months depending on how much time I have available ^_^

#############

July 8 update:
-Fixed Journal Entries
-Reduced development cost

June 27 update:
Added compatibility for 1.7
Removed Hudson Bay ports and route until I fix whatever is causing the game to crash. Still an ocean tile so feel free to build ports and fisheries. Update - issue on PDX end and their map editor breaking. Pray that they fix it.
-Made the sea tile impassable. Should prevent naval invasions from random sea tiles now
You will notice some major changes:
-Removed split provinces. This will let you actually use mods with this lol ^_^;;
-Traits are now added on mod load instead of in map_data. Makes it easier for compatibility patches
-Removed some JE's and updated others
----Some left over artifacts from this that will be slowly patched out
-Patched out migration JEs. PDX fixed migration with 1.6 and 1.7. American frontier JE is good enough since it's easy enough to break free from GB now - otherwise just build your economy and migrants will come in droves.

December 1 update:
Finalized Canadian split states
Added Migration Journal Entries
Added Develop north provinces JE
Updated Quebec Iron Mine JE
Updated Canadian Gold JE
Rebalanced Canadian Gold mines
Rebalanced and added dynamic traits
Rebalanced Canadian Oil
Rebalanced minerals
Rebalanced Static State traits
Custom trait icons :)

Canada - A land of snow and Forests has a severe lack of forests. The Hudson Bay reduced to a mere lake, train tracks that don't fully connect provinces.

Some may question why a few in game states (provinces) get so much - For that I'd like you to compare the size of Ontario and Quebec to the eastern USA or Europe. And do that for the rest of the provinces :P. Canadian provinces are ridiculously large - it's common for us to take a multiday road trip across provinces to visit family. With that said, I believe Canadian states require significantly more arable land and resource caps. Ontario and Quebec are modeled fine for arable lands. Prairies... not so much.

Goal of this mod is to fix up the Great North and maybe (if I can get it working) get some mods up in the territories for those who want to really invest in the resource rich north. I don't plan on deviating into some alt history or new events (since I'm not confident I can accurately portray these key events - If someone else wants to, please reach out and we can work together!). Just hoping to make canada RP a little better. As well, I'd like to better reflect the vast untapped resources of the interior and how difficult it was historically to access it. It's bad faith to not even include those resources as if there was a concerted effort in colonize and industrialize the interior, much of those resources may have been accessible.

Added gold deposits to northern and eastern canada to better reflect the large gold, diamond and silver deposits in the regions. So far Im liking the idea of it being a PITA to inhabit the north - the large gold deposits but non-existant infrastructure balances things out IMO.

The modifiers feel cramped but there's only so much you can do with the limited amount of states in Canada.

Yeah sorry about that - there's a tonne of tags I need to add the the JE's to actually make that more clear lol

Oh my bad ignore my last comment. I didn't realize you have to actually form Canada for the events to fire!
Heliandros 29 Aug, 2024 @ 12:54am
Hey I'm liking the mod so far but I've run into a couple issues. 1-The Labrador Trough event is not firing even though I have all the requirements checked off. Does it not do anything?
And the "last best west" JE isn't activated because my country isn't "upper canada" even though it is. Is there something I'm missing or is there like a hidden requirement? Do I have to be independent or something?

Nice to see this mod back. I am going to have to give it a play-through to see what new suggestions I might have.
