SurgeryImproved

Description
About
This is my first mod, so there might still be issues! Feedback and bug-reports welcome.

Reworks how surgery works to be less arbitrary.

Features

In short:
  • Surgery failures (except for ridiculous) return the items
  • No random stabbing the patient on surgery failure - only non-minor failures can damage parent body parts
  • Body parts will survive unless they have < 70% health (except for ridiculous failures)
  • Allows surgery success chance to reach 100%

So, a pawn won't die when
- Body part and their parents have at least 70% health
- No ridiculous failure on a vital body part (except torso)

Detailed explanation

Minor failure:
- 10 damage to affected part.
- Won't destroy parts if they had at least 70% health
- Returns but damages items

Catastrophic failure:
- 20 damage to affected part
- 25% chance to damage parent part as well (and a 25% to damage their parents, etc.)
- Won't destroy parts if they had at least 70% health
- Returns but damages items

Ridiculous failure:
- 40 damage to affected part
- 25% chance to damage parent part as well (and a 25% to damage their parents, etc.)
- Can and probably will destroy body part operated on, but parent parts won't be destroyed if they had at least 70% health
- Doesn't return items

Version History
  • 1.3: Update to 1.6
  • 1.2: Allow surgery success rate to reach 100%
  • 1.1: Never destroy torso in one surgery
  • 1.0: Initial release

@Burger bob this is exactly what happened to me. I was installing a prosthetic arm (on a missing arm) and my expert doctor decapitated the patient. I've still baffled by it

Lmao my pawn with medic 13 ("strong expert" as the game showed) performed a brain implant surgery on someone and failed and cut off the entire head causing instant death. This is straight out of some cartoon shit. I was like, the fuk are you using katana chainsaw on surgery???

The archotech leg went to the great genetics expanded electrowomb in the sky.

Epic story about the archotech leg below

Went looking for this mod when Tony (18 Med) in a fully outfitted hospital catastrophically failed an aesthetic nose install resulting in an archotech leg being erased from existence. Look, Rimworld. I appreciate a good random thing every once in a while, but come ON. Many thank!

thank you! it bugs me so much that doctors would just send the bionic organ they were installing into the shadow realm without even breaking it down for parts just because they made a couple wrong incisions.

@ArnoFanrce I don't use that, you'd have to test. If it's not, please report back!

Is this compatible with 'Un Limited Reborn'?
