Tac's Hunker Patch

Description
THIS MOD IS VERY SIMILAR TO: https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1541012085&searchtext=hunker

CHECK THAT OUT BEFORE LOOKING AT THIS

HIGHLY RECOMMEND RUNNING THIS WITH LWOTC

This mod does two things:
1. Gives all units that didn't originally have the hunker ability (and can take cover), the hunker ability. Units with invalid animations won't show any after hunkering. The ability will just appear for them and that's it.

Unlike the similar mod above, this mod doesn't maintain a large list of enemies that get hunker down. It just looks for any valid enemy that can take cover and gives them the ability. If you don't want to maintain a large list of configurable enemies and plan to use the mod for this aspect, consider this mod over the other similar mod.

In addition, unlike the original mod, the AI is given some basic support for the second, animationless hunker ability. Meaning it works out of the box, especially if running LWOTC since the ai support includes some LWOTC elements.

2. If using LWOTC (which is the intended target for this mod), hunkering down will remove burning. This is unique to this mod compared to the one above.

There is two config options to turn either or both of the above things off. If running this mod without LWOTC (so just for the added hunker changes), then I recommend turning that second item off.

I made this mod purely because I thought the burning status in LWOTC was a bit too strong, so I wanted to find a way to mitigate its power.

Hi @tac.

Thanks for the heads up. I think I will risk it. Thank you for your time and responses.

@Lebowskichild

I don't know too much of the internals of Everyone Gets Hunker Down, so take what I say next with a grain of salt.

Likely there might be weirdness if you do that mid-tactical (in a mission), but if you do it in the strategy layer (geoscape) you should be fine.

Hi @tac.

I wonder if you would possibly know, if I were to remove the Everyone Gets Hunker Down mod you linked above, mid campaign, and then enabled this mod, would there be any issues?

Thanks for your reply, and I look forward to trying this out.

@Lebowskichild

Sorry I missed your question from earlier. It's been a while since I touched this mod, so I had to review it and cross reference some things to make sure I had the right idea.

The simple answer SHOULD be, yes, ai should use hunker when burning, even those that were not originally able. However, there can be some exceptions dependent on how their ai was set up.

The technical answer is this: if an ai uses TryShootOrReloadOrOverwatch as a behavior option AND they have a hunker ability, they will try to use it.

Hello again @tac.

I was still wondering if you could clarify if this mod actually adds A.I. to make the enemies use hunker when burning?

Hi @tac, or anyone who sees this. Could you tell me, as I'm unsure that I'm understanding correctly.

Does this mod not only add the hunkering ability to all enemies that can use cover, but adds some A.I. that allows them to use it if on fire, even if they don't possess that A.I. in their own A.I. trees?

I like this mod, especially alongside of Burning Disables Shooting by Charmed. I don't play LWOTC, but the option to have hunker down put out fire makes it more fair for the enemy. An easy cheat I found, was toss a molotov at a Sectoid, and you don't have to worry about it for a few turns. :steamthumbsup:

I did always wonder why the aliens couldn't hunker down, like they could in Xcom Enemy Unknown!

Thank you so much! I've been trying to find a way to edit the config for LWotC but I had no such luck. Really appreciate it!

Glad to see this highly compatible version, and the fire removal. Thanks!
