Old School Resident Evil Zombie Sounds

Description
[UPDATE: Please reinstall if installed before 09/02/24]

[See INSTALL section below]

CHEESY INTRO:

Did you grow up in the 90s playing games you shouldn't have been playing? Hairline not what it used to be? Do you prefer your zombies to sound more like walking corpses than homeless people on bath salts? Are you ready to feel the cold, yet comforting embrace of lady nostalgia? Than this mod is for you!

My first ever workshop and Project Zomboid mod, Old School Resident Evil Zombie Sounds, introduces the soulless wails and moans of the undead (or not really undead?) from the atmospheric and tense Resident Evil franchise to the brutal, simulation-like, and also very tense, Project Zomboid.

FEATURES:

1. Male zombie vocal sounds from RE1, 2, and 3 (and possibly Outbreak later)
Almost every sound for male zombies, except a few I'll mention later, has been replaced, leading to a pretty good variety.

2. Female zombie vocal sounds from RE2, 3, and Outbreak.
Almost all female zombie vocals have been replaced with RE ones, still not as diverse as the males, but much better than before, will possibly tweak a bit later on.

3. RE bite sounds for both female and male zombies.
The bite sounds are the "except a few" I mentioned earlier. PZ has some nice crunchy bite sounds, so I left some in for males and females, but don't you worry, girly, those sloppy and disturbing classic RE chomps are definitely back. ;)

4. Crows!! :D
All crow sounds replaced with RE1 and 2. Hopefully someday someone will make a real murderous murder of crows mod, complete with music cue.... dun, dun.... dun, dun Note: I may replace release a PZ crow version if asked for.

5. TBD
Extracted sound files from Outbreak, only used female ones for now, may mix in the males at some point, but I feel it's at a decent place to simmer for a bit without constant updates, especially since it needs to be manually installed every update.

INSTALL:

This is a complete "ZomboidSound.bank" replacement mod, this means it is larger than many PZ workshop mods (about 600 MB) and needs a manual install from the workshop folder, this is admittedly due to my lack of PZ modding knowledge. It was the easiest and safest way I knew of, with no compatibility issues. Here's the steps:

1. Subscribe to the mod through workshop.

2. Go to "[Your Steam Directory]\steamapps\common\ProjectZomboid\media\sound\banks\Desktop" make a copy/ backup of "ZomboidSound.bank", I usually just copy it to the same folder for a quick, easy to find copy.

3. Go to "[Your Steam Directory]\steamapps\workshop\content\108600\3153395049\mods\Old School Resident Evil Zombie Sounds\media\sound\banks\Desktop"

4. Copy "ZomboidSound.bank" from this folder, then go back to "[Your Steam Directory]\steamapps\common\ProjectZomboid\media\sound\banks\Desktop" and paste the modded "ZomboidSound.bank" there, overwriting the original. Again, make a backup first.

5. Just play, you don't need to activate it in game or start a new game or anything. Works fine in multiplayer coop too since it's client side.

CREDIT: A good amount of credit goes to CrazyTv with his mod, RE2 Zombies Sounds, which I'm sure at least a few reading this will know. Though I did start my edits from scratch, his mod inspired and helped me to understand how to make this.

Now, don't worry about me, just rescue the survivors in the other rooms... JUST GO!!

This is awesome, works better than I imagined... Volume levels need a bit of a tweaking I think. Btw, think it would be possible to make a mod that add background sounds? Like in the streets on RE2 and RE3

The sounds sprinter zombies make are separate from regular zombie sounds as of B42, so it's likely that the soundbank was restructured.

Cool stuff! Do you think there's any chance you could add the RE 1.5 zombie sounds in a possible update? Not sure were they can be found, but it would be a lovely detail if possible! :D

I tried it in 42 build and all my sounds gone, so I assume its not working

@I deserve life
Is it actually not working anymore or did you assume it would need an update for v42? I can't test myself because I haven't updated yet because I know better XD If it isn't working after updating it may need to simply be reinstalled, there's a good chance the ZomboidSound.bank file was replaced from updating
