Realistic Truck Wear

Description
This mod tries to make the newly introduced damage system (v1.49) more realistic.

To achieve this, almost all damage and wear variables have been changed to make the truck and trailer parts wear like real parts. A detailed explanation of these changes can be found in this discussion thread.

The TLDR of the damage changes are:
  • Trucks will have to be restored earlier (~1,600,000mi) (SCS default: 2,640,000mi).
  • Engine and transmission will show problems later (800,000mi and 500,000mi) (SCS default: 466,000mi).
  • Introduced retreading of tires through wheel repair. Tires must now be retreaded after every 250,000mi on the truck and 400,000mi on the trailer.
  • Wheels wear much slower and only need to be replaced after ~750,000mi (SCS default: 18,650mi)
  • Damage repair prices reflect the real average repair and maintenance costs of a semi truck and also include the cost of insurance.
  • Introduced maintenance intervals, with service required every 50,000mi. Part damage is used to indicate that a service visit is required.

In addition, the thresholds for damaged vehicle usage warnings and fines have been changed to reflect the changes in wear accumulation. Warnings are issued when any part has more than 15% of total damage (wear + damage) and indicate that the player should visit a repair shop. Fines for core parts are issued when any of them have 50% of total damage, and for wheels when they exceed 60%. The fine has been reduced from $500 to $300.

The coinsurance system has also undergone a major overhaul. The deductible is now gone and the percentage the player has to pay has increased significantly. Repairs will now be more expensive, especially after accidents. The player's percentage now starts at 90% and can be reduced to 70%.

⚠️ When adding this mod to an existing savegame, some of the changes will not take effect until the next in-game day.

My recommendation for playing with this mod is to drive until the check engine light comes on, and the visit service message appears on your dashboard. At this point, go to your favorite repair shop and repair all parts of the truck and trailer except the wheels. For wheels, you want to repair them when wear + damage is approaching 60%. Replace any parts that have 15% or more wear.

Before using this mod, I strongly recommend that you read my guide on how the damage system works in the game, and if you are interested in the details that this mod changes, then you should also read the linked discussion thread.

Compatibility with other mods:
This mod is not compatible with mods that also modify damage data. If you are using a real economy or similar mod, chances are that it changes the police or bank data. If this is the case, you will need to decide which values you want to have in your game and order the mods accordingly.

While creating this mod, I tried to research all the details as best as I could, but if you have a better insight into the numbers I used and feel that they do not reflect reality as well as they could, then please leave a comment, so I can make this mod as realistic as possible.

⚠️ Please keep in mind that the newly introduced damage system (v1.49) may change significantly in the future. Therefore, it may take some time to update this mod when new updates for the game are released, or it may even become obsolete.

Until the author updates, you can get it to work with 1.56 by following what I did below:

Go to where Steam is installed and navigate to:
[your drive]\SteamLibrary\steamapps\workshop\content\270880\3136845154

Then copy the folder:
"153_content" and create a copy renaming it to "154_content".

Open version.sii and add:

package_version_info : .156.content
{
package_name: "154_content"
compatible_versions[]: "1.56.*"
}

After you do this, it will now be compatible with your game version.

@Snuff try playing for a few days and see if the values change. Some values take a bit of time until they take effect.

@Krys29 that is a cool idea to be even more realistic. Yeah, I think most repairs can be done in a day if they are small. Complete replacements probably take a couple of days.

@Romarus It's probably not compatible as they also change the wear and damage data. You could place my mod above theirs and use my values, but that might lead to a worse experience overall.

Hey Onyx, or anyone else for that matter, is the coinsurance still 90% or back to default ATS for some reason? I thought maybe I had a conflict so I loaded ONLY this mod but am still getting base ATS values so if it is still 90% for the mod, I'm wondering if the wear portion is even working for me....
