Description
My custom talker, which includes a lot of fixes, as well as fun new additions and some basic 8 player support.

"How is this different from Beel's talker?"
While Beel's and mine are similair in many ways, I would call his more experimental.
It has more stuff, but it does make the survivors too vocal for my liking.
Whichever you think is better is purely preference.


Supposed to be an altered version of the vanilla talker, not a complete talker rework. The main focus is on adding unused things, fixes & improvements.


Doesn't work with other talkers (VScript talker stuff and ion's Vocalizer are compatible)
Some of the 8 player stuff was taken from Rise's 8 Player Modified Talker

There are 2 additional voiceline for Rochelle concerning Teamkills, however due to the lines not being present in the game_sounds_producer file by default, I had to disable them...

Local/Dedicated server only.

(Almost) everything that this mod contains:

    Unused things (re)added
  • Readded Survivor name calling when killed (tinkered with it so that anyone can call the name, not just the priority player)
  • Added Ellis friendlyfire revive line
  • Added L4D2 cast thanking other survivors for healing them (like the L4D1 cast does)
  • Added second Louis friendlyfire line when shooting him again in quick succession
  • Added unused voicelines of L4D1 cast asking others for health when not healthy (requires injured person to not have a healthkit)
  • Added a few L4D1 exertion voicelines when hurt or bleeding out
  • Added unused Ellis transition line
  • Added unused Rochelle HeardSmokerToo voiceline
  • Added unused Rochelle & Ellis reaction lines when holding the gnome (rare)
  • Added unused ReviveFriendA lines (initial revive line where the reviver asks how they are)
  • Added Rochelle's Ellis specific Defib line (Thanks to ion and Lochlan)
  • Added unused Ellis response when Coach is shot (rare)
  • Francis can now callout car alarms ("I hate car alarms")
  • Added an explosive only friendlyfire line for Coach (uncommon)
  • Ellis can now sometimes whistle to a survivor if they're far away
  • Readded Ellis' crow impression lines when alone (made it less common)
  • Bots can now get mad when someone wastes a health kit when they're B&W
  • Added unused Ellis line "Why bless your heart" when thanking survivors (uncommon)
  • Added unused Coach line "That's actually not a bad story" when Ellis talks about their adventure in Dead Center
  • Added unused & improved name calling lines
  • Added unused Ellis BeingHealed lines (Nice find Beel!)
  • Added unused Zoey GoingToDie voiceline "I just wanna go home"
  • Added unused Zoey HordeAttack lines when getting overwhelmed (must be a bot)
  • Added unused Louis HordeAttack lines (rare)
  • Added a Tank Molotov line to Francis
  • Added unused L4D1 Rescued lines
  • Added unused L4D1 AnswerReady lines
  • Added unused ScenarioJoinLast lines

    Fixes
  • Fixed wrong Louis teamkill voiceline requirement (was set to Bill instead of Louis)
  • Fixed Rochelle critical friendlyfire voicelines not playing
  • Fixed wrong ItemDonor instances
  • Fixed wrong voiceline timings with death and revive reactions
  • Fixed Coach's reaction to Nick's 'whatever' thanks line not playing
  • Fixed wrong Concept for Nick thanking Ellis (PlayerYouAreWelcome instead of YouAreWelcome)
  • Fixed missing dialogue for the Crash Course Intro
  • Fixed Ellis' second voiceline about Keith's diet not playing
  • Fixed Tank FriendlyFire lines not working in the Whitaker's Gun Shop survival map
  • Fixed the L4D1 cast shouting to close the saferoom door even when alone
  • Fixed survivors sometimes saying their normal goingtodie voicelines even when critical (caused by Coach being in the area)
  • Fixed final Bill line of the "how old are you again?" convo
  • Various fixes to Spotted/Taking weapon lines
  • Fixed Louis' Pills Easter Egg line not playing

    Improvements
  • Added proper Teamkill detection
  • FriendlyFire Revive lines now requires the reviver to have actually downed a teammate in the past 8 seconds (instead of just friendlyfire)
  • Added some 8 player stuff for general interactions (mourning, spotting survivors, friendlyfire, EllisInterrupt, etc)
  • Tank related voicelines now work with Tank Aggro instead of just Tank presence.
  • Dynamic mourn lines (some mourn lines won't play when alone for example)
  • Added HurrahAlso to the L4D2 cast (bot reactions after saying Hurrah)
  • Moved inappropriate transition voicelines
  • Added a voiceline to every survivor when they're the only one left when completing a chapter (Coach & Nick already had one)
  • Added Dead Center versions for Witch Chasing & Getting Angry lines (survivors won't call her a 'witch' anymore, unless Rochelle suggests calling her a witch, whereafter the normal witch lines will be used)
  • Intense versions of lines are now always used when rescue has arrived (reviving, healing, etc)
  • The L4D1 cast will say friendlyfire lines when a tank is present
  • Added gas pouring lines in custom campaigns for those that did not have them (Ellis, Nick & Rochelle)
  • Added generic EscapeArrived/GetToVehicle lines for custom campaigns
  • Changed the L4D1 UseAdrenaline voicelines to keep them in line with how the L4D2 cast reacts
  • Jockey reaction lines can now play more than once per map & play earlier
  • Zoey's ChargerBeatsNick line can now also be said outside of The Passing (very rare. also works in Custom Maps)
  • Survivors that get/are incapped once the escape arrives will sound more desperate

    Other additions/changes
  • Added more idle bot lines (starting room only, can break continuity in official campaigns)
  • Removed most Survival/Versus/Scavenge requirements
  • Survivor pinned by Hunter voiceline cooldown reduced
  • Survivor choking by Smoker voiceline cooldown reduced
  • Added reactions to Rochelle friendlyfire voicelines ("Who shot me?")
  • Added reactions to one of Rochelle's low health voicelines ("One of you want to carry the cute girl?")
  • Added reactions to one of Rochelle's low health voicelines ("Anyone else feel like crap right now?")
  • Added a few death reaction voicelines
  • Added a few friendlyfire voicelines
  • Removed range requirements for death reaction voicelines
  • Added a few mourn voicelines previously only used in Dead Center (more rare)
  • Ellis and Coach might sing one of two songs from the Riders together
  • Added a few voicelines to Taunt/Hurrah (and some in NiceJob for Nick)
  • Added character specific non-bullet friendlyfire voicelines to Coach & L4D1 cast
  • Added voicelines when leaving the saferoom
  • Added some Parish Finale lines when playing the finale of custom campaigns
  • Reduced odds of Bill's spliced Francis friendlyfire lines
  • Increased odds of rare lines playing for the L4D1 cast (the chances were WAY too low compared to the L4D2 cast)
  • Added Witch Cr0wn voicelines
  • Ellis will sometimes call some special infected as he does at the start of Dead Center (same as Francis sometimes calling the Jockey a "Little Vampire")
  • Ellis can sometimes call Coach "Big Guy" when thanking him
  • Survivors have a small chance to comment when killing a special infected with a melee weapon
  • L4D1 GoingToDieAlone lines can now play more than once per map
  • Ellis can tell any story in custom maps

I noticed - did you do something with how the survivors do their callouts? I like swapping Ellis with Zoey in L4D1 campaigns and I noticed he doesn't act like he's the only one in the team anymore. I like that.

That's something I thought of for more in depth 8 player map support but settled on another way to organize it. It's just a remant which I need to delete

I looked in terror_player.txt and I saw #include "talker/8playerfinales.txt" in it but there's no 8playerfinales.txt file. Is this meant to used on other 8 player mod or something?

That seems very unlikely. Not sure how much custom talker content Nova Prospekt uses, but this mod with ion's vocalizer is compatible and does not cause an overflow error.

If ion works, it makes it very unlikely that a custom map would add too many voicelines for this to happen.

I always use this talker in my own dedicated server any I've never had it crash on me on any of the custom maps I've played (which is over a 100). Although I have not played Nova Prospekt.

Have anyone got the overflow scene error or something ? This is probably a issue on my end, mostly anyone wouldn't encounter this, but some custom maps may freeze in mid game due to too much vocalize scene being executed (idk if i describe this precisely)

The map name was Nova Prospekt, when I used this talker mod, the problem happens, and I restart my game with lighter talker mod, the map can be playable to the end

I'll take a peek at the patch notes next time. I'll keep an eye out if you've implemented a script that has already existed before (i.e; L4D2 survivors saying thanks, etc.).

I actually wasn't sure if my talker was still compatible with ion before testing this. Good to know it still is!

I cleared up my talker scripts. It's back to working again.

Just tested with Lochlan's vocalizer as well, and I do not have a crash when using that with ion either. I also tested with another talked which notes that it isn't compatible with ion as another check and it DID crash there, so Lochlan;s should also be compatible

I'm currently looking at my workshop addons as we speak. I didn't realize how many unnecessary vscripts I have installed. God.
