Optimal character guide (Royalist & Wulfram)
By MPN
Since Lords of Infinity is quite a tough game, I want to make a guide to create the (IMO) optimal character stat-wise so that you may have an easier time getting into Loi (Lords of Inifinity) when that time comes. In this third part of the series, there will be 2 opposing factions, Royalist and Wulframite. I won’t get into details since the Loi content may change, but I’ll create 2 separate optimal characters for these 2 factions. Please import the character you created from my guide in Soi (Sabres of Infinity).

Notes:
1/ I won’t include inconsequential decisions in this guide (personalities will affect sometimes, but it’s only for flavor most of the time). If you don’t see my choice in the list of choices, it means that list has inconsequential choices.

2/ I recommend having less than 50 ruth, as well as 65+ ideal.

3/ I will shorten the terms for convenience:
Cazarosta->caz, Elson->els,Cunaris->cun,Lefebvre->lef
Katarina->kat,Welles->wel,Holt (the elf)->holt
Soldiering->sol,Intellect->int,Charisma->cha,Reputation->rep
Idealism->Ideal,Ruthlessnes->ruth,Sergeant->sgt,Lieutenant->lt
Discipline->dis,morale->mor,loyalty->loy
Royalist->roy,Wulframite->wul

4/ I’ll use a blank line to separate between choices.

5/ For those who aren’t familiar with %+ and %-: +10% of 60 will mean you gain 10%*(100-60)=4 points (values are always rounded down). -5% of 30 will mean you lose 5%*30 = 1 point.
Choices - part 1
"Very good, Staff-sergeant, see that it is done."
-The 3 choices before this is inconsequential since we’re just so awesome.

"We've already identified the root causes, and my Staff-sergeant is already working on it."

Excitement; I want to know what news my father has sent to his most beloved son.

My mother and I are quite close.

I am an only child.
-Having siblings means more debt, and they won’t be of use in Loi since we’re not gonna stay at home. Shipowners route should be only child for maximum money. Roleplay-wise, you can go ahead and have siblings, but remember that the more your mom and dad love you the less your siblings like you. If you plan to have siblings, I recommend choosing middle option for dad and top option for mom.

I have expenses too! I send back five crown a month.
-I think the best strategy in Loi is to pay the interest, not your debt. So it is best to keep the money to yourself, but sending back nothing means +10% ruth.

I shall decide on a case-by-case basis.

4th Troop, under Lieutenant Findlay.
-Nepotism, but eh, we also rose to this rank thanks to our birth.

Roy: I order extra drill until all the men can get it right.
Wul: I find some way to speed the reloading process.

Self-improvement; I seek to improve my skills in all aspects.
-You can choose some other options, but 60+/65+ cha and 65+ int are important on several occasions. So I strongly recommend this option. Note that in Loi your personal skills will decay by about 3-5 points each.

"Of course, Your Grace."
-Aww, Cun caring for his nepotic son.

"Order the men to maintain normal readiness."
-The important threshold you want to aim for here is 65 dis/mor/loy. I have done some maths, and this choice is probably the optimal combination among the few acceptable ones that meet these criteria.

"Lieutenant Findlay! Dismount your troop and run that rabble down!"

I send a detachment to rush ahead and hold the bridge for me.

I try to turn the tables with a bluff of my own.
- The most important reason to have 60 cha is so that you can gain 10$ from the game! This $10 is absolutely vital! Vital, I tell you!

I read the letter from my family.->No. In fact, I cannot afford to send any at all now.
- Several unimportant choices before this. As I said, you need the money.

I read the letter from Wolfswood.->
Roy: No, I will not allow myself to be drawn into this.
Wul: I'll do it. I'll pledge the Hunters my support.
- Wulfram will use Hunter as a champion to rally the people. Only support Hunter if you side with Wulfram.

I want to make sure my men are doing well.->I call a staff meeting and get my subordinates to figure out a solution.
-Do this one first.

I would like to see how Lady Katarina is faring.

"In fact, I did."->"There is no need to apologise."

Roy: I would hope earnestly to gain her deep affection, perhaps even more.
Wul: I hold her in high esteem as an acquaintance.
-You gotta marry someone eventually to have heirs, and Kat is one of the best female option. There are male options later on, too. If you don’t want to romance her, choose like wul. Kat will side with Roy later on.
-Alternatively, Roy can choose “My personal opinion does not matter; I need an ally in Royal Intelligence.” for a romance out of political interest. This option helps you avoid getting -5% rep hit later.

Roy: I shall visit Master Garing and see what he is up to.
->"Might I take a look at your plans?"
->"I would be happy to invest in this project."->Invest 500$/1000$/2000$
Wul (Optional): I think I shall begin writing my recollections on my military service.
- Garing’s project is dead in the water if you side with Wulfram. Writing probably won’t be useful but Garing’s project definitely won’t be useful for wul players. If you do invest as wul, invest like 1$ to get +1 progress stat, I guess.
- As for Roy, invest 500$ if you're doing Shipowners route and 2000$ otherwise. The more you invest to more Garing likes you, which may be useful in sequels.

I'll volunteer for the Forlorn Hope; glory calls to me!
Or
I volunteer to lead the Forlorn Hope, for the reward, of course.
- For wul, you need 60 ideal for later use.

"Could I not convince Havenport to allow us both to take part?"
- Second reason why we should befriend caz.

…my decision not to wear my armour and knightly sword was the right one.

I found the safest approach to the breach.

There must be some other way!

I discreetly hang back and let one of my men run ahead and trigger the trap.
Wul (optional): Why risk my own skin? Order Cazarosta forward, have him trigger the trap.
-Roy: Sometimes we have to make sacrifices, sadly. I swear I wouldn’t choose this IRL!
-Wul: Honestly I’m kinda terrified of making caz my enemy. There’s no consequences so far, but he’s Cataphrak’s poster child, so I fear there’ll be consequences in the future.
-Make sure your ruth is below 40 before this choice, since you’ll get a huge ruth boost by choosing this. There will be 1 choice later that gives you -10% ruth. The threshold is below 55 if you betray Caz.

I'll go forward and personally vanquish the enemy gun crew in close fighting.

We counter-charge; it's the last thing they'll expect!
- Risky option, but result in the least amount of casualties and highest rep. In this run, we can do it.

"The sack disgusts me as much as it does you."
-> "It would be no trouble at all, Lord Renard."

Give men awards for merely following orders? Nonsense!

Agree to act as Blaylock's second.
- Less than 50 ruth, you get +10% rep, -10% rep if not. So I strongly recommend having < 50 ruth here. You may try to get over 70 ruth for later use if you want (optional). There will be chances to increase or reduce ruth after this, so don't worry.

"Then I must congratulate you on your victory."
-> "You might thank me by next time seeking out my counsel before things go too far."

I throw my weight around and try to get the best replacements.
- If you have 75+ rep here, you can replenish to 100 strength, but sadly we don’t, so we only get extra 20.

If the Takarans have come to watch us fight once again, then they are welcome.
- Optional, but I believe we should make love, not war :)

"What is your opinion of your visit thus far, sir?"
-> "Not a quaint tradition, a pointless and self-defeating one."
- Other questions to Holt is optional, except for this option. Remember to ask this one first.

I would like nothing better than to be his friend.

I shall continue to ride with my officers and men.
Roy (Optional): I would like to spend my time getting to know Lady Katarina better.
- Choose your men if you're planning to go to Palliser's part in Loi Prologue and talk to Blaylock and Sandoral. Otherwise, choose Katarina.

(Optional) "I note a distinct lack of a 'd'al' in your name, Lieutenant Lewes."->A pity; the army could use officers like Lewes, common or not.
- In case you want some extra progress.

"Very good, we'll lend a hand."

"Your Excellency, would you please head to the rear, for the lady's sake at least."
- Not available if you dont follow my guide and not have 60+cha

No, I will take charge.->I'll lure the enemy in, then hit them with a counter-charge.

"You might thank me with a drink once we reach Fort Kharan."
- You will take -10% rep for this option, but it's much more beneficial to get high opinion from Lewes and Reyes.

"Let us be bold and take our chances; we go north."

"The alternative would be no less risky, my lady."

I order my men to mount up and throw the enemy back across the river.
- This is the end of chapter 7.
Choices - part 2
Starting from chap 8:
"I would trust His Excellency to handle himself."

Roy: The proposal is admirable but utterly impractical for a kingdom at war.
---
Wul: Women officers? Surely it is not such a bad idea.
-> "Surely, ladies of the blood deserve the chance to prove themselves equal."
- When siding with wul, I believe wel is the best romance option since kat is unavailable. Thus, you should choose this option even if it means your rep will take a hard hit. You need 60 ideal and 60 cha for that option, though. If you don't have 60 ideal, "Better banebloods of whatever sex than giving commissions to the baneless." is a good alternative.
- As for roy, gaining the king’s favour here is better, I believe. Sorry, ladies.
- Now the following choices will be different depending on what you just choose.

Roy: A greeting fit for a military superior would be best.
-> "Not all, sire; some change is needed, and one must decide on an individual basis."
---
Wul: "I must confess that it was your argument that swayed me."
-> "Then we are of a mind, you and I."
-> Lady Welles has captivated me utterly; I must see her again, and soon.
- If you don’t plan to romance wel, don’t take the rep hit.

"I'll not upend the entire patrol schedule just so that one junior officer might attend a salon."
- So far there’s no issues doing this. Sandoral will be sad :( but I’ll be sadder if my regiment doesn’t reach 65 mor.

Wul: I draft a publick declaration of support.
- Supporting Hunter again. Following my guide and you should have 60 rep by this point. If not, choose the option to spend 250$ instead.

We can stop them with a good volley or two.
-Several unimportant choices before this, wearing armor or not for this doesn’t matter.

I have a plan, one that will lose us neither men nor time.

Discipline comes first; get the looters back in line before proceeding.
-You shouldn’t loot. I wanted to, but mah rep :(

"Of course. You may lead me to him directly."
->"Shall you be ransomed soon?"->"Should you want for employment, you may inquire after me when this war ends."
- You can ask questions, but don’t leave. Leaving means missing out on loch, who is your best estate manager in Loi.

I'll use the time to oversee the development of one of my lieutenants.
-> I instruct Blaylock on how to command his men more effectively.
- When you have the chance, give Blaylock command in Loi. He’ll be your best subordinate.

"Introduce me to this fellow, Lieutenant. I might be able to talk him around."

Roy: "For you? Anything."
Wul: "You are my friend, madam, and I would not leave a friend in need."
-You should accept Kat’s offer when she presents it to you (you need 50 opinion from her, which is easy to attain). Choose like wul if you don’t plan to romance her.

Roy: "Then you shall have me."->"Then let us see it to the very end, together."
Kat: Were I in her place, would I not do the same?
-There are several unimportant choices in between. Even though she’ll side with roy, I think having good opinion of her will still be useful regardless.

I see if any of the men have problems I could resolve.

There's no point in taking risks; I'll put my armour on.

I should go with Lady Katarina, to see to her safety.
- Important choice here. You can choose to stay to capture or kill Khoro’s daughter, but I don’t recommend it. Either options will result in massive hits to your unit, rep and .make the Cunaris duo your enemy for life. Capture her if you want the money, or kill her if you have 60 ruth.
- I may change my mind if the princess becomes too dangerous in future works.

I feel useless dawdling here; I shall see if Lefebvre needs a hand.

I've got a runegun, don't I? This seems like the perfect time to use it.

Better I capture her by force than allow Lefebvre to murder her.
- You need 55 sol for this, which you should have.

"You mustn't blame them, they did not know."

I tried to convince the others to show as much mercy as possible.
- Don’t bully my PTSD senpai pls :(

Roy (Optionaal): Even in peacetime, I supposed I would be better off as a lieutenant-colonel than a major.
Wul: I decided that there were better ways to spend my money.
- It's worth it to get the rank up for Royalist to get increased income, as well as more grenadier square influence, which will be of use later. For Wul, not really.
- Buy the commission if you're doing Shipowners route. For the other routes, I think both options are fine. Subject to change depending on War of Infinity contents.

"I shall be inheriting a seat on the Cortes; that shall keep me busy."
-Choose this if you have at least 50 ideal, otherwise, choose anything but this and putting your estate to right. Not available if you betray caz.

"Why, that is a marvellous idea!"
-Not available if you betray caz.

"Why, of course, I expected this!"
-Available whether or not you betray caz.
Afterwords:
Important threshold:
1/ 55/65/75 mor/loy will result in 25/30/35 in Loi. After which you will get extra dis/mor/loy depending on your squadron’s strength, but try to reach these thresholds.

2/ 65 dis with my choices will result in 35 dis in Loi, otherwise you’ll only have 25. So it is vital to get 65 dis.

3/ Following this guide and you should have 65+ for each category. Except for loy for roy, which you will get from the beginning of Loi (Unless you chose to speak with Kat in chap 7, in which case don't bother talking to Blaylock and Sandoral in Loi Prologue).

4/ There are many alternatives that you choose that I cannot talk which is better since War of Infinity is not out yet, so you can choose them as you wish. Examples: Whether having siblings or not, how much you're investing in Garing's project, talking to Kat or your men, buying Lieutenant-Colonel commission or not.

My guide might not be perfect, so all feedback is welcome.
