Simple Vest

Description


Adds an armored vest for early body protection as company to the simple helmet.

Its unlocked after researching smithing and can be crafter at a smithy out of any 60 metallic resource + 20 cloth. It provides reasonable torso and neck protection, similar to an advanced helmet, but still less protection than a flak vest. It also gives a -0.1 movespeed debuff, similar to the flak vest.

Is this compatible with CE or other mods?
A CE patch has been made, but was not tested.

Is this mod safe to add into an existing playthrough?
There shouldn't be any issues adding this to an existing playthrough, however any items will disappear after removal.

Given that simple helmets can be made in machining tables, would it be reasonable to let simple vests be made there too?

Thanks for the pointers,

I adjusted the hitpoints, added the cloth requirement and updated the mod page description to give more info.

Lowering the max hp to 100 should work better as a base value, as the max hp scaling of the materials lines up better that way, for example steel would end up at 200hp, like a flak vest.
You'd still get high values with uranium and plasteel, but not as insane as before.

I'd also suggest adding 10 or 20 cloth requirement to the crafting, since it still has straps, the flak vest also has straps and takes 30 cloth.

Okay for anyone else wondering, since it's not in the description:
Only metals can be used
It's unlocked once you've researched smithing
It's produced at the smithy

Also it's way too durable, the resistance as kinda fine, a legendary steel protects for 116% sharp, 58% blunt, 78% heat.
Meanwhile a legendary flak has 180% sharp, 65% blunt, 48% heat.
Here's the kicker though, a flakvest always has a max health of 200.
This mod's vest at steel has 580 health, with uranium 725 and with plasteel 810.
It will essentially never break during combat and it will take literal ages before it breaks from apparel degradation.

For reference, a recon armor has 280 health, a marine armor has 340 health...

Seems interesting, could be nice to use spare/abundant leathers for early armor on it.

Updated to 1.6.

- Removed protection from shoulders (since flak vest got its shoulder protection removed as well) and added neck protection.

- Increased stuff effect multiplier so you will benefit more from the materials you make the vest from. (Plate armor got buffed similarly. Flak vest still remain a much better overall choice.)

CE patch remains untested, but unless CE made some changes it should work.
