Cummins N14 CELECT Plus

Description
The N14 CELECT Plus debuted in 1997 and was offered in new trucks across all the North American brands except for Mack from 1997 to 2001 with the last ones having mostly made their way into Kenworth K100E's, Peterbilt 362's, and first gen Volvo VNL's that were more special order at that point.

While over 2 decades old at this point, the N14 CELECT Plus is still a fairly common voice on the highways of the US, with its distinctive rumble at crusing speed able to be heard for quite a distance.

Another distinctive sound is the turbo, which can always be heard even at idle. I've devoted quite a bit of time to getting the turbo sound to behave as one does in real world with the spool rpm being affected by engine rpm, engine load, and whether the Jake Brake is on.

There are 13 ratings that are included and are genuine specs published in the 1997 sales brochure for the N14 CELECT +. Some are governed at different speeds than others so don't be surprised if the one you drop in doesn't go above 1800. Many of the lower ratings were intended to be linehaul spec fleet engines and were governed as such with one being governed at a mere 1650 rpm. The idle speed is another way to tell what the governed speed is and so it shall be specified as well.

The ratings are as follows:

330HP : 1350 lb-ft @ 1200 RPM : Governed at 1800 RPM : Idle at 650 RPM

350HP : 1350 lb-ft @ 1200 RPM : Governed at 1800 RPM : Idle at 650 RPM

370HP : 1450 lb-ft @ 1200 RPM : Governed at 1650 RPM : Idle at 700 RPM

400HP : 1650 lb-ft @ 1200 RPM : Governed at 1800 RPM : Idle at 650 RPM

435HP : 1450 lb-ft @ 1200 RPM : Governed at 1800 RPM : Idle at 650 RPM

435HP : 1550 lb-ft @ 1200 RPM : Governed at 1800 RPM : Idle at 650 RPM

435HP : 1650 lb-ft @ 1200 RPM : Governed at 2100 RPM : Idle at 750 RPM

460HP : 1500 lb-ft @ 1200 RPM : Governed at 2100 RPM : Idle at 750 RPM

460HP : 1650 lb-ft @ 1200 RPM : Governed at 2100 RPM : Idle at 750 RPM

500HP : 1650 lb-ft @ 1200 RPM : Governed at 2100 RPM : Idle at 750 RPM

500HP : 1750 lb-ft @ 1200 RPM : Governed at 2100 RPM : Idle at 750 RPM

525HP : 1590 lb-ft @ 1200 RPM : Governed at 2100 RPM : Idle at 750 RPM

525HP : 1850 lb-ft @ 1200 RPM : Governed at 2100 RPM : Idle at 750 RPM

I may add multitorque ratings later.

The clutch engagement torque is the same across all ratings and is 900 lb-ft @ 800 RPM.

At some point I'll have a link to an interactive spreadsheet that can be downloaded to help with specing drivelines based on desired cruise road speed, selected engine rating, tire size, and selected transmission though it will probably be a while.

The Jake brake HP varies depending upon the rating though the most effective RPM range is 1800-2100.

I'd recommend driving with the adaptive automatic transmission for a bit to get a feel for where the power band really is on a given engine as they vary a little from rating to rating.

As for audio balancing, there is no need for fine tuning as I've based this around the befault sound settings with all the audio sliders in the default middle position.

The truck availability is based on which trucks had this engine as a factory engine or was a typical option for glider kits, no exceptions.

For credits for this mod directly, there are a few usual suspects;

Kreichbaum: Sound files

Wilson12: For the invaluable engine creator used to make the files

Harven/SalvJerry: Providing videos demostrating how to setup sound mods

Along with two personal friends;

My mates John and Kyle: For providing feedback on the sounds and putting up with me for talking about this for nearly a full year

All this to say I hope this mod will truly give players a proper representation of the last variation of the 14 liter Cummins.

@Red Wolf There were no Audio Engine Changes in 1.50 nor do I lock my engines to be compatible with a specific version of the game.
Red Wolf 16 May, 2024 @ 8:58pm
is 1.50 yet?
Valentine 6 May, 2024 @ 4:24pm
Ah, okay. Thanks anyways

@Valentine It can but I only do OEM factory ratings. I've spent a fair bit of time and money acquiring reference materials for engines and I intend to only present the historical ratings offered.

Aw, so it couldn't be tuned or anything?
JVPTh3MVP  [author] 6 May, 2024 @ 2:49pm
@Valentine No, 525 was the highest rating offered.

Hey I was wondering if the N14 could possibly make 550 HP?
