Description
Water Goes Bad
This mod makes the water still stored in sinks, baths, etc after the water shutoff become unsafe to drink after a customisable amount of time. Off-grid water containers, such as water dispensers, stored water containers, and player plumbed sinks are not affected.
This aims to make keeping track of water more engaging. In Vanilla, stored-up water leaves a near infinite supply of easy safe water even after the water shutoff, making keeping up with thirst trivial.
Water Drain
This mod also features water draining from the taps over time to add further urgency to securing a water source.
Filters
This also introduces the need to filter plumbed taps. You'll need to additionally craft and install a filter after plumbing a tap, unless the source has safe water (not rain).
Customisability
Sandbox variables allow you to customise how many days after the water shutoff the water becomes tainted (including instantly). The filtering and water drain features can be turned off entirely, and the rate of drain can be changed.

Incompatible with the Water Pipe and sprinklers aka plumbing mod. Plumbed houses will be tainted even when plumbed from a well.

Also, if you're using Lifestyles mod, make sure minimum water remaining stays above 5 or something or all toilets will become unusable, unless you can legit plumb them with a rain collector barrel.

there's been a few reports like this, seems like it's still working for some people but i'll look into it soon

I've attempted to play with this mod recently, and it seems as though it does not function.

I changed min days water goes bad to 1, and max to 3, for testing purposes, I then waited 2 weeks for the water to shutoff and it didn't go bad after the aformentioned 1 - 3 days.

Can someone confirm, or am I doing something wrong? B42 unstable, latest patch as of writing.

Also, thank you so much @albion for your work. This mod is really good and a must-have for my playthroughs, I've always played with it. Thank you, thank you so much for creating and maintaining it.

Cheers.

water doesn't really go bad on its own so probably not, but you can justify it with all the literal corpses walking around

Is this mod actually realistic?. Would this happen in real life ?

@Johnny Dollar you went 20 ingame days in a single real life day?

@Migs

Currently on day 70 without disabling the mod.
Water from sinks have started to drain, is tainted and the mod is working as intended.
Double checked sandbox settings, and sure enough, minimum was 1 day after shut-off and maximum was 2 days after shut off.

Didn't change any settings or do anything differently, but it works now for unknown reasons.
Thank you for the mod albion.
Makes the fight for water worth it, instead of emptying a gas station's year old sink for 20 liters of fresh spring water.

Don't worry about it my man, if I were you I'd just wait for them to update the game again before trying to patch it, otherwise you'd be just be doing constantly doing patches like that and that's probably tiring.

the tainted icon isn't showing up currently because B42 has changed how that UI (and sinks in general) works every other patch, and i haven't really worked out how to do that this time: i do intend to fix that eventually but i've been a little busier lately

water not becoming tainted or draining on the first day is a bug that happened previously, it probably re-emerged with the massive rewrites i've had to do between patches, i'll look into that for the next update

@Johnny Dollar

Just to be clear, on the first day I spawned into the world, it wasn't working and the sinks were still full, it only started draining after the first day regardless of my settings. Also another detail is that when you right-click a water container, it won't alert you that the water is tainted. Only when you transfer that water to a container in your inventory will it tell you that it's tainted.

I don't know if that's an issue with the mod or it's because of the way B42 handles fluids that doesn't show you it's tainted, but regardless, my settings are as follows:

- Minimum Days Until Water Goes Bad: 0
- Maximum Days Until Water Goes Bad: 0
- Plumbed Sinks Need Filter: On
- Drain Over Time: On
- Water Drain Rate: 1
- Minimum Remaining Water: 1 (Set this to 0 if you want sinks to have absolutely no water, but you'll have to rely on rivers and rainwater to survive)
