Unit Overhaul Mod v4.7

Description
Unit Overhaul Mod v4.7

Installation:
Install Instructions can be found in the mod folder under Casual Reading along with how to update the GCR + Unit Overhaul Mod to 4.7 with the new maps. Follow those instructions to the letter and you will have success!
Please note that this mod works great with base SRU game but really shines when combined with DesTryke's GC Rebalance Mod as that map has been extensively modded to a high degree of real-world accuracy according to several sources of 2021 reference data. Please see install instructions for both versions in the included casual reading folder and change log.
Do note that there will be a slight chug of lag at game start for about 5 to 10 days while the scenario settles all the units, this will go away shortly.

This mod takes SRU in a new direction with the overall intention of attracting the “Turn Based Grand Strategy Crowd” on which the highly detailed Gary Grisby’s War in the East, Decisive Campaign Series, Flashpoint Campaign Series, and even the Command: Modern Operations series attract. This mod excels at slow, pause often, move your battalion, brigades, and divisions like chess pieces. Just about every Multi-Domain Battle scenario can be gamed out with this mod, but instead of just single theaters like most of the above mentioned cover, the entire world can be gamed out. A China/Taiwan scenario can be gamed out, with every available resource in the Pacific Theater at play along with managing the logistics, economy, research, and political maneuvering. An India/Pakistan scenario can be played out in a highly stable multi-player campaign. You can even play as one of the Mexican Cartels and work together or go against other cartels with several other players. With the new placement of actual military structures of almost every major and minor country, the ai actually does a decent job, if you play realistically.

Quality of Life Tip. This mod details every major military structure or formation for every country on the 2021 map. Every unit’s location and experience level is modeled. Before unpausing the game take a moment to select any unit and then unselect it. Click on the Defense Tab and lock your Global Rules of Engagement. This will keep your units for reserving to its nearest barracks or base and give you a chance to battle group your formations. Every formation has a HQ unit that will tell you what brigade, division, corps, or army it belongs to. Many countries also have a word document in the casual reading folder to help you organize the battle groups, if not you can look at the orbat of the country you are playing or request a word document from me. When done you can unlock your global rules of engagement again and micromanage to your heart’s content, or not.

After speaking with the creator of “World War 3: Part I, Russia Invades the Baltics” I was inspired to create Single Player or Multiplayer a highly detailed and modeled lead up to WWIII based loosely on Flat Circle History’s amazing video!

    Features of this update:
All African country Military Structures and Starting Positions are now included.

Every country on the 2021 map is now completely modeled with accurate military structures and placement of forces, and experience on the map.
Included a new event folder that contains different event files for the GCRemodEvents file (GC Rebalance + Unit Overhaul combo only). You can choose a base 2021 sandbox game with no events, a Historical to Date event file which includes the Russian/Ukraine invasion, or the default file which predicts some potential events with China and Taiwan and North and South Korea conflict.

Introduction of actual Military Force Structure:
Actual brigades, divisions, corps, armies, air wings, carrier strike groups and other military forces have been placed in approximate locations for every country on the 2021 map. The AI will more likely reserve these at the nearest barracks or air base. However at least these force concentrations will be somewhat accurate if the player attacks these countries. The player can battle group these forces at immediate start, just lock your defense minister before you unpause. I have included Military Force Structure Organizers in the Casual Reading folder to help with this.
In addition, these forces are given experience according to training level and recent experience. Unique differences between highly trained Active Western forces and forces that rely heavily on a conscript system. This provides more character depth and connection to your forces and hurts if you lose them.
All in all, there is much more realism and tactical immersion. No more moving meaningless blobs around the map!

Be sure to check the included casual reading folder for force organizers, the change log, installation instructions, and tons of other stuff to read to better explain everything!

Maxi_spf, you will need to look in your steam workshop folder, I beleive it is something like folder 3149…… it basically would be the most recent folder. There are install instructions in there.

I don’t have all of the skills to make this a self installing mod. When I get home I can get you some screen shots on where to look.

Hi, I've subscribed, but the mod doesn't appear in the game. The caption isn't even in the Steam mods folder. In fact, it doesn't even download when I subscribe. Any solution? Thanks.

In game settings at start up, turn of Diplomatic Merchant Marines. This is a known bug for SRU, does not work very well.
jamesc398 6 Sep @ 4:15pm
having a problem, units that were diplomatically gifted to other countries remain (seemingly stuck) inside the country gifting the units, this is visible on my save all over the world, specifically north korea, america, russia, and china. Not sure if this is something i can fix or a glitch from the mod or maybe the countries just genuinely dont need to transfer the units? hard to tell but none are moving, all are set on "idle retreating" any help is appreciated

The ai struggles to cross oceans, but, if its own forces are attacked, it will react (eventually) by placing units in transports at ports and send them off to the nearest friendly port where the action is taking place.

Before this mod, an example of a war between Russia and the US would see no real interaction. With this mod, the US has bases all over, its carrier groups are in their mission locations, and the Russians have several bases around the world, one in Cuba. So the ai is actively patrolling and has target pathing destinations to get its units more involved.

To assist with this problem, we have added over a hundred foreign bases for dozens of countries.

In addition every known carrier or short deck carrier will start off with its appropriate carrier wing. For the most part that wing of aircraft will stick to the carrier. If one of those aircraft are damaged it will path to the nearest airfield to repair. So an improvement yes, but not a full fix.
