So as long as you don't change stance (Mount/dismount) during combat then it will work.
I don't have the DLC to test it, but, "it should work" ™.
Because seriously, I'm really fed up with situations where an agent at level 36 wounds your character at level 50 which happens repeatedly. You, on the other hand, when you try to wound a character of, say, two levels higher or equal it's always a critical failure.
The AI is literally spraying these agents left and right in turns over 100, and the perks and items that are supposed to protect yours - do nothing.
Even the ‘lucky’ trait does not help.
