Description and Lore

Knightmare Defense Industries presents the Griffin Class Corvette III. The Griffin has served KDI through 3 generations of its warships and is one of the fleet's most common designs. The third major version of the Griffin brings it up to KDI Generation 4 standards, with new and additional weaponry, an improved interior design, and increased forward acceleration. The Griffin is a corvette like the Fianna, but slightly larger and better armed, with a more robust/traditional layout.

The Griffin III is armed with 4 fixed, forward firing Artillery guns and 16 large turret emplacements. The Griffin III operates similarly to the Siren II, keeping its armored front towards the enemy and allowing for its turrets to go to work. Cargo containers are below turrets to provide ammunition during combat, and the hull around these has been reinforced with heavy armor to prevent catastrophic damage from ammo detonations. Other critical sections have been reinforced with heavy armor as well.

The class is named for the Griffin, a mythological creature with the front of an eagle and the back of a Lion.

Credit and Links

I use a light changing script to switch around the interior light settings. Its an older script and I couldn't find the original creator. The script was updated by ColTeH for my use. I used some of Whiplash141's scripts on the ship, including their braking script for "flip and burn" situations, and a few of their mods for taking the screenshots. The mods I used to assist with the screenshots came recommended by Taidyr, who makes some fantastic content as well. Thanks to Keq, another excellent builder who helped me improve my interiors. I used Hadley T. Canine's Large Magellenic Cloud Skybox mod for screenshots. Links below. I got inspiration for this ship from ships shown in The Expanse RPG book, I highly recommend The Expanse's books and show.

If you want a quick color conversion, say to UNN or MCRN colors, then I recommend this block recoloring mod, which will greatly simplify the process. Color Replacer Blocks - V2

Please feel free to modify the ship to fit your in game needs. Just be sure to give credit to the original creator.

Author's Notes
And there's another out there. Felt good to remake the Griffin. It's such a classic for me at this point. Started working on it before WF2, and updated it a bit afterwards, then even more so after I did a lot of testing with the Siren II. Exploding ammo is a ♥♥♥♥♥, I tell yeah. The armor does a good job mitigating it, but its hard, especially on a hydrogen ship. Going to keep playing with ideas though, as the survivability isn't really as good as i'd like it to be yet. But the Griffin is as good as I can make it, for now. Hopefully it will serve you well. Please let me know if you encounter any major issues, I'd really appreciate it. Hope you enjoy!

If you have any questions, comments or feedback about the ship, please leave them in the comments below. I'm always looking to improve upon my work. If you enjoy the Griffin Class Corvette III, likes are greatly appreciated. Thank you for browsing this item. Safe Voyages! Papple.

@silver.talon I'm interested in seeing that too... We'll have to see.

Yo Papple2 are you gonna dust off those building gauntlets for SE2? I'd be interested to see what a unified grid system will do for your designs!

It is something indeed, I hope your dry design spell gets over soon, but ik how much of a pain that can be.

As for inspiration, have you ever heard of the Culture? Its quite hard to find the material unless you know the specific key-words on google images, but check this out, it might get you interested

Since you asked nicely ;). Although it's just a refit of a small ship, it is something.

Also totally forgot to say thanks, lol. I appreciate the compliment.

Things have been busy for me lately irl. Combine that with a dry spell for design inspiration and I'm not playing much SE atm. I haven't stopped building entirely, but things have slowed down a lot.

hey Papple, did you stop making ships? your designs are some of the best on the workshop imo

@Asheram Ah, no worries. I try to do what I can, but I can definitely miss things, and WF2 upended a lot of long-standing practices with ship design.
As for refueling, hm, hadn't considered fueling it from that orientation. Actually I'm not sure why I didn't add a second connector on the opposite side from the airlock with a camera. Seems like that would be handy and I've done it before.
