CV, Basic Extender, Unlock Level 15, Class 1

Starter CV / Miner, Upgradable. Warp drive and compact shield stock.


The Pallas is a highly function-specific starter CV. Its primary purpose is to be an expeditionary asteroid miner, capable of immediately warping to any system to mine asteroids in bulk. It is upgradable to a laser miner once the technology and materials become available to you.


The CV mechanical drills fill a slot in the progression when you want more efficiency and capacity than your SV miner is providing, but are not high enough level to afford the expense of a drill turret or fixed laser drills. They are a bit finicky to use though. It looks like you can just cram the things into an asteroid and mine with the edges, but they should actually be treated as very wide, very short-range laser drills where the laser emanates from the tip of the drill. The Pallas features LCD "Drill Guides" that you can enable in the control panel to guide you through using them until you get a feel for how they operate.

With the stock CPU you can add a long-range radar as soon as the parts are available to you. Once you add an improved extender you can eventually replace the mechanical drills with up to 8 laser drills by following the upgrade guide on the ship. Upgrading the thrust and warp drive will keep the ship relevant in its role into your mid to late game.

The stock minigun turrets should be sufficient to fight off drones around asteroids, but the ship is only lightly armored so try to avoid prolonged combat. Don't ignore the drones if they attack, you should immediately maneuver towards them and engage to take them out.


Because it would be impractical to bring in a ship like this as a second vehicle in the early game, the Pallas is also equipped to act as a limited starter vessel. You have a small and large constructor, food processor, a full medical suite, several cargo boxes, sentry turrets for ground defense, and room for docking a few small SVs. There is also an indentation in the rear that can dock a small HV with a top-mounted docking pad. What it lacks is space for a farm, repair bay, internal hangar, and expandable production and storage. Therefore it may be best to use this in concert with a small production base depending on your playstyle.

It has 4 mobile solar panels installed which can provide about half the idle power cost for the ship. If you are logging out of a server for the night you can install 4 more panels upside-down on the existing ones and that should keep the fridge powered indefinitely (with all other devices off). I recommend removing those additional panels before using the ship as they will obstruct the firing angles of the minigun turrets.

Note: The front boarding ramp is only automatic on entry. Press F on it to open it as you leave the ship, and it will auto-close behind you. Internal doors operate in manual mode so they stay quiet as you walk around the interior. All doors and medical devices are public by default; all storage is private.
