King Haarahld VII Class Battleship

Named for the Charisian King martyred at the decisive point of the stunning Charisian victory of Darcos Sound, the King Haarahld class can rightfully be said to have ended the war that began with the death of its namesake. At the time of its introduction, these ships were the most powerful vessels used by any power in the Safeholdian region, bar none. Seeing service at the end of the Great Jihad, their appearance marked the end of the Royal Dohlaran Navy as a serious threat to the Charisian Empire, and gave Charis utterly uncontested control of the skies over Safehold.

The armament of these ships was the primary factor in their ability to lay waste to any opposition. The twin breech loading 12-inch rifles in the turrets had unparalleled range even compared to contemporary Charisian artillery. Against the cast iron muzzle loading Fultyn rifles entering service in the Church aligned forces, like the Royal Dohlaran Navy, these guns were literally unmatchable. The same could be said of the 8-inch breech loading rifles, a dozen of which are carried in the six double turrets. A ventral turret is carried fore and aft of the engine pod, and a turret is mounted at each corner of the superstructure. The superstructure is also home to a number of 5-inch and 3-inch quick-firing guns in casemate mounts to defend against the threat of Dohlaran spar-torpedo boats. Machine guns and repeater rifles gave it a final layer of defense.

The climax of the Great Jihad would see two of these ships, HMS King Haarahld VII and HMS Gwylym Manthyr lead a Charisian squadron straight through the heart of the Temple Lands before shelling the Holy City of Zion into surrender. The subsequent surrender of Grand Vicar Clyntahn aboard HMS King Haarahld VII would mark the end of the decade long Jihad against Charis which had so revolutionized warfare in the region.
