Note: Grenade variant. Torrent class topsail schooners were an instrumental part of the devastating Charisian naval victories off Armageddon Reef and at Darcos Sound. The main fleet of war-galleons, under command of Crown Prince Cayleb Ahrmahk, was guided by signals from the schooners whose speed had allowed them to find the combined fleet. It was then that the thundering broadsides of the war-galleons could do their work, smashing the fleet of galleys into matchsticks. At Darcos Sound, they pushed back the screens of the Corisandian and Emeraldian fleets, allowing for the galley fleet of the Royal Charisian Navy to combine with the returning war-galleon fleet and devastate the remaining allied fleets. Throughout the Jihad, these ships played an important role as scouts, screening ships, and commerce raiders. The two main variants, the grenade version and the heavy musket version, both saw huge production runs. Exceedingly fast, long ranged, able to sail very close to the wind, they were initially unmatched by any light galley or galleon of the Church-aligned realms. Even when the new sailing rigs and weapons were adopted by the mainland realms, the inimitable fighting spirit and courage of the Royal and then Imperial Charisian Navy was able to ensure that these schooners remained a much feared sight.
