Contextual Player Animations

Description
Contextual Player Animations is a simple script that makes animations play when players interact with the world. Such as opening doors, pressing buttons, picking up & dropping or throwing items, or flinch when they take damage.

All effects done by this script are using animations already included in the game.

I'm open to ideas for more things I could implement into this, and more than willing to add them so long as the suggestions don't interfere with gameplay.

Current "contexts"
  • Taking damage, flinching
  • Opening/closing doors
  • Pressing buttons (supports hammer map buttons, gmod buttons, wiremod buttons / levers / etc)
  • Picking up, dropping, and throwing physics objects
  • Entering/exiting submersion

"Why does this need a Base addon?"
This addon utilizes a lua function from the Draconic Base which handles networking the gesture animations.

THIS ADDON DOES NOT CONFLICT WITH ANYTHING. IF AN ANIMATION FAILS TO PLAY ANOTHER ADDON IS PREVENTING THIS ADDON FROM WORKING.

IT WORKS WITH
  • VMANIP
  • TFA WEAPONS
  • ARCCW & ARC9 WEAPONS
  • OTHER ANIMATION MODS
  • NOTHING SHOULD BREAK THIS ADDON.
  • STOP ASKING ME IF SOMETHING IS COMPATIBLE.
  • THE HEADER BOLD TEXT STATING THIS WASN'T ENOUGH.
  • SERIOUSLY. IT WAS SAD AT FIRST BUT NOW ITS DEPRESSING.

If you need immediate help with any of my addons, or just want to know what I'm working on or etc, then consider joining my Discord[discord.gg] server.

Are you sure it's enabled? That's an old legacy function of Draconic but I haven't removed it because I know how many older add-ons rely on it

I've been getting this error for the past few weeks:

lua/autorun/worldinteraction.lua:37: attempt to call global 'CTFK' (a nil value)
1. v - lua/autorun/worldinteraction.lua:37
2. unknown - lua/includes/modules/hook.lua:96

In which the addon doesn't work and displays the LUA error in the corner. Could this be due to a conflicting addon? I already have Dragonic Base installed.

Ah, sorry, I actually misunderstood the meaning of this mod. I thought it's just like that video and gif of HUNK where he has these non-vanilla Gmod animations, now I understood that the meaning of this video is about the player reacting to certain things like getting shot, opening doors and stuff. What mods (map, weapons and most importantly the player movement animations mod) were you using in that video and gif?

And yes, this is an awesome mod (Contextual Player Animations) and I'll keep it, it adds much more to Gmod and makes it more serious.

BTW, these clips of HUNK are hilarious and awesome! They totally look like legit RE2 gameplay footage!

It doesn't say "use third person animations", you found the third person camera. All animations in this script execute automatically, hence the name "contextual". You say you are using ARC9, you likely have thirdperson IKs turned on which override the player's arm animations.

Deeply apologize if this is a stupid question:

How do I actually activate these animations? I have the Draconic Base mod for probably around a year (I barely used it though), when I held the C button and opened the Draconic Base menu and went deeper into the menus, I checked the "use third-person animations" option, and it does indeed become third-person, but the animations are just the same vanilla animations as without this mod?

Did I not actually activate this mod's animations or do I need to enable something even more specific than that? And I've also equipped an ARC9 weapon (for example, COD BO2's ARC9 weapons mod) just to make sure that I did nothing wrong and the animations were still just the same.
