Description
Casual: Nothing dropped on death, no hunger.
Survival: Drop 50% of pixels on death, but keep all your items.
Hardcore: All items and pixels drop on death, can't beam up while underground.

Permadeath disabled on all three.

Intended for multiplayer servers, but can reduce frustration in singleplayer too.

As I mentioned in the description, this is intended primarily for multiplayer servers, where the game can't be paused. Also, there's already a hardcore option - survival doesn't need to be hardcore too.

If you don't like being able to teleport while underground, you can always just NOT do that while you play... Consider it an opportunity to exercise self-control in the face of temptation. :winter2019joyfultearsdog:

Hardcore is a one-way trip, so no thanks. But having an "ultimate escape" button is kind of a downgrade of difficulty, whatever the name. I mean, what does having a penalty for death do, if you just never die? Just so you know, beam up button can be pressed while in pause menu, meaning it isn't even a matter of time or panic. You just pause the game and beam out of harm's way. Not exactly hardcore.

I always viewed difficulty in games like "easy" being lossles, aka you can fk up however much you want and don't lose anything, "medium\normal" as somewhat punishing, aka you lose something that sets you back, but can be restored\reobtained, and "hard" as a mode for challenge-lovers bored with normal gameplay, that punishes every wrong move, like with permadeath, resourse scarcity and so on. Removing item drop on death is a nice touch, sure, since it's not exactly so much punishing as it is tedious to go grab them back, but providing an deux ex button isn't exactly a "normal" difficulty.
Anyway, that's just IMHO, you're free to ignore.

"Survival" in this case is just another name for "medium" difficulty. If it were up to me, I might have named them something like "Casual", "Normal", and "Intense". While game devs are slowly becoming aware that using the difficulty names "easy", "normal", and "hard" have unintended consequences, I don't think anyone has come up with a better all-around set of names yet.

Anyway, you ARE still surviving in this Survival mode: There's a penalty for dying, and you have to eat. If you want a more intense 'Hollow Knight'-like experience, just play Hardcore.

you can just get the disable drop one if you don't want it

It is OP since when you get cocky and end up in danger, you can just beam up from danger. Getting cocky should be punished in normal/hard plays, since otherwise what's the point to play survival if you're not actualy surviving?

All it does is change a few server values. Worst case scenario, FU overrides them and nothing changes

It doesn't seem all that OP to me. It mostly just spares you a lot of time back-tracking or drilling a tunnel up to the surface. It's not like this is a PvP game or anything...

FU compatibility?
Also beaming from underground is OP as hell, are you sure you want to keep this for survival?
Windtalkers 5 Jan, 2021 @ 11:36pm
thank you!

Yes, underground beaming is allowed in Survival.
