Description
"The Himalia is a capital-class exploration vessel intended for use on the Aphotic Plateau and beyond as a salvage and exploration craft. Ample cargo capacity, capable production facilities, and enough crew amenities to sustain at least eighteen. the vessel is capable of the long-range deployments expected for recovery and research duties at those distances."

This ship has spent the last two years in production at Vorta Shipyards to finally get pushed out as part of the Coalition's efforts to collect the myriad broken submarines and outposts on the fringes of the Europan Ridge and the further-distant Aphotic Plateau. Dozens upon dozens of failed operations have resulted in a treasure-trove of scrap, and the Coalition's shipyards demanded the material.

Additional bidding from several research firms have also pushed to have this vessel outfitted for light ruin exploration duty, with an away-shuttle incorporated into the superstructure. While the shuttle does not allow the ship to perform as effectively in the salvage role when the berth is full, the added utility has greatly extended the operating capacities of the ship.

Field duty at such distances, with such a broad mission profile, demanded additional crew services. A lounge area, surplus bunkspace, stocked fridges and high internal volume are what crews can expect walking in. A step up from the average Dugong, to be sure.



Features

Twinlinked Forward Coilguns - Rapid fire weapons systems placed on the bow have a strong arcs of fire, with surplus firepower astern - Dorsal railgun included - for protecting against the size of fauna that a ship of this size may draw. Gun control distributions allow for weapons and helm crews to both serve in protecting the ship. The large number of weapon mounts, while formidable, is curtailed by restrictions to supercapacitors and the limited power of the reactor during standard operation. Capital-class storage bays - The Himalia is a salvaging ship at heart. The Coalition has fitted her with enough cargo space to take home more than a few shipwrecks worth of material. Additional storage added for research recovery, and a built-in junk chute for filtered waste, the Himalia will serve the scavengers of the seas well. Open, well lit superstructure - The internal compartments of the Himalia have been designed with long-distance expeditions in mind. Some sacrifices in flooding resistance have left her much more comfortable for crews - A gambit that research declared would reduce psychosis induced in crewmembers serving on confined vessels. This has been met with mixed reception, but when it wasn't full of water, test crews were very receptive.

Finally reworked! With enough internal space, nooks, crannies and more, the Himalia is well suited to traitor-laden gameplay. AI may struggle around the stairs, but will eventually get from point A to point B. As always, this vessel is totally up for modification by the community. Thanks to Undertow for making Barotrauma. Best submarine game one could ask for. <3

No kidding!

You're not wrong, I've largely moved on from Barotrauma - As much as I love the game, between getting married and moving, my focus has certainly shifted a bit. Not a lot of fourty-hour binges hunched over editors lately!

I've poked my nose in and done some cleanup.

Can't speak for the balance situation as I haven't played in ages, but I've fixed up the lights and other minor issues.

Hey, I commented on this sub a while back to ask about a lighting fix that it still unfortunately hasn't received- if you've moved on from this sub or don't have the time anymore, I totally get it and am sorry to bother. That said, if you're still around and working on things, this submarine still is probably my favorite sub I've seen on the workshop, and I'd love to see it brought up to speed with the most recent updates. Hope you're doing well!

Searchlights are the way those rooms are lit - It's quick fix, though! I'll tackle all of the submarines I've posted at some point in the near future to correct.

With the new update, the lighting in the stairwells on either side of the ship no longer illuminates past the first floor. Dunno what the devs did, but hopefully it's easy to fix!

This. Is. So. Freaking. AWESOME! The idea to add breakers is genius, and the sheer size of the ship makes it feel like I'm in an underwater city. Thanks for making this m8!
