- Paratroopers/Spec Ops brigade, represented by either a Humvee or an airdropped armoured vehicle (Wiesel, etc). Can airdrop from a friendly airbase (icon temporarily changes to a cargo plane) fly into enemy territory and wreak havoc. Deals high damage to most enemy installations (radars, etc) and weak land units, and is hard to detect with radar. BUT it is very vulnerable to forts, garrisoned cities and strong land units (divisions) where it will be killed in just a few minutes of combat.

- Fortress, represented by a modernised star fort. General-purpose defensive structure, has a number of weapons to use against enemy aircraft, ships and armies in a fairly large combat range. If a unit is garrisoned inside the fort and is hit by a nuke, the fort is destroyed but the unit will be unharmed unless a second nuke hits.

- Transport ship, when built carries resupply equipment for naval ships, allowing a fleet to stay at sea longer. This equipment includes nuclear payloads and repair parts, and allied ships around it get automatically resupplied. However, also importantly a transport can instead convoy divisions across the ocean, allowing for naval invasions to be performed. Two divisions can be carried by a transport at a time, but the transport ship then loses its naval support abilities until it offloads those troops and returns to friendly territory again.

- Infantry division, represented by a wheeled armoured-personnel carrier. Weak to tanks (inf. being routed) but fairly effective against arty (infantry can use cover better than tanks). Importantly, cheapest land unit and is only unit capable of capturing or defending well in urban combat.

- Armoured division, represented by a main battle tank. Weak to artillery (anti-tank weaponry) but effective against infantry (outmanoeuvring and routing foot soldiers) Bonuses to fighting enemies in the open country, and does more damage to already weakened enemies (blitzing). Is less powerful against fortified enemies. Moves faster than the other two divisions

- Artillery division, represented by a self-propelled gun. Slightly weak to infantry but effective against tanks. Has a higher combat range than the other land divisions, and deals more damage to cities and fortresses, and units garrisoned in them.

Adding to DONAR's idea: I think three types of army should be in, and yes they should be able to capture territory. However, I think units should be medium size bc ICBM isn't a micromanaging RTS, and leave their range at a reasonable amount. It would be rock-paper-scissors style matchups.

Also, units should be able to fortify inside cities for combat bonuses in exchange for taking damage if the city does.

do armies ever reload, they run out of ammo and just become basically unusable?

What weapon did you use as your army's arsenal? a missile?

I'd rather make it two different units. Infantry and tanks. Infantry are good vs infantry, but bad against tanks, and tank good vs tanks but bad vs infantry. Perhaps you can make it so that infantry can capture cities, and have the borders be dynamic. Also I think movement speed should drastically be reduced! And firing range as well. I'd make it so the units have to be almost right on top of their target to engage. I'd also make the icons very small, so that ground forces are more of a micro managing thing. The fact that they move very slowly gives the player time to take care of the macro.
