[WotC] Agile Strength Fix

Description
Background
Agile is a cut Chosen strength that allows the Chosen to take a free move when targeted by an attack. If you enable it in the .ini files it works, but there's a catch.

The vanilla Agile perk forces the Chosen to move, regardless of if it's a good idea or not. Any Chosen that rolled Agile was doomed to meet their end at the hands of a five soldier Overwatch trap they were forced to blunder into. They also moved at random, meaning they'd often move to a worse position. All in all, it was less of a Chosen strength and more of a Chosen weakness.

Not any more.

Features
This mod reenables the Agile strength, and rewrites its AI to make the Chosen use their free move intelligently.
  • Firstly, the Chosen will now stop to consider if moving's a good idea: if they aren't flanked and there are overwatchers lying in wait, they'll stay put.
  • Secondly, the Chosen now think about where they're moving to. They'll try to move to better cover and put some distance between themselves and your squad, making it harder to pull off multiple flanks against them.

It's a pretty fun perk to play against now. Chosen with Agile are much harder to focus down, and you can't just destroy their cover and hit them with a full squad.

I've also included an optional ini toggle in case you want to add Agile to all the Chosen.

Yes. They should only run the suppression if they're flanked.

While playing with Agile enabled I remember that suppressing chosen would also count as attack and force them to move, which I think shouldnt happen because technically suppression isnt an attack itself. Does this mod affect Chosen reaction to being suppressed?

Thanks found it

It doesn't by default, but there's an ini toggle if you want to do that.

So does it give all chosen the agile ability though? I am trying to find a damn mod to give them LWOTC like reactions but every mod just makes them rulers.. and that is kinda crazy

Oh, cool. Didn't realise there was an existing behaviour. I get no hits when grepping all my XComAI.ini files for TryAgileMove so that looks cool. Thanks for the info.

I'm fairly sure it should be compatible with all of those. If you want to be certain, check their XComAI.ini files for the TryAgileMove behaviour. If they don't have it, it's compatible. If they do have it, delete it to make them compatible.

Couple of questions on compatibility if I may
RealityMachina's "Restored Chosen Traits" also brings back Agile as a Chosen strength. As far as I can tell though (not an expert) there's no editing of the ability in that mod, just adding +ChosenStrengths="ChosenAgile" in XComGameBoard.ini
Do you know if someone could just enable this mod with that one?

You mention changes to Chosen AI. There're a few mods which change up the Chosen AI (I'm using "A Better Chosen" with "Aggressive Chosen" in my current campaign and liking it). Are you aware of how compatible or not this mod is with any of those AI mods?

Evil.

Very cool, challenging skill to bring back, like that you added "intelligent moving" to this defensive ability instead of keeping it forced and random. Should help to stop them from standing still and taking shots which makes no sense.
