Pretty Orchards - Everlasting

Description
Orchard trees won't disappear unless cut down, resulting in prettier Orchards and a more stable supply of fruits & nuts. Tree growth time increased from 2 to 3 years. Tree spacing changed from 2x3 to 4x4.

This mod has an alternative that's a little more balanced but a little less permanent (use only one of them):

Pretty Orchards - Synchronized

Why 4x4?

The increased spacing of trees may look like a nerf to Orchards, but the vanilla trees, with their life cycle of dying and being re-planted, average to about half the expected production; this mod gives you 100%. With the 4x4 spacing, this means you'll get much more produce from the same number of trees (and thus, workers) albeit in a larger space. This was the best way to balance them without touching a whole bunch of other files.

Also, they look much better this way, in my humble awesome opinion.

Compatibility & Recommendations
- Load this mod above: Fig Example (if you have it) -- any conflicts with that mod are intended (or accounted for).

- NOT recommended with Better Fields. That said, if you absolutely must have 2x2 Orchards, just load this mod below Better Fields -- there should be a small conflict (Template\Orchard_orchard) that can safely be ignored. Read the notes section for why I advise against it.

- If used together with Placement Restrictions Relaxed and Worker Tweaks these 3 serve as a (more comprehensive) alternative to Better Fields. If you decide to add Better Fields into this mix (see above), remember to place PRR & WT above BF & POE.

Other Notes & Details
- Growth period made longer to somewhat compensate for the permanence.

- Since the trees don't naturally wither, you'll have to manually cut them down if you want to grow a different type of tree (just hit the 'Cut' button in the Orchard UI).

- They can make great decorations, even without supervision: Just make whatever size & shape Orchard you want, have a worker plant trees, then remove the Orchard. The trees will grow by themselves and stay until cut down. Be aware that Foresters will cut them down if in range.

- Using the tree lifetime from this mod alongside 2x2 spacing from Better Fields makes Orchards extremely overpowered, to the point that I didn't even bother putting the numbers in the table below. Besides, they look like an actual orchard when the trees aren't all bunched up like that. But ultimately, it's your call.

Here's a comparison between vanilla Orchards and the relevant mods, plus Crop Fields because why not. Enjoy.

Assuming 16 trees & 1 educated worker (smallest ideal orchard); Average food per tile per year: - Vanilla (15x4) : 8.7 - Better Fields (7x7) : 10.6 - Pretty Orchards S (13x13) : 4.9 - Pretty Orchards E (13x13) : 6.2 - Crop Field (11x11) : 7.2 Average food per worker per year: - Vanilla : 520 - Better Fields : 520 - Pretty Orchards S : 832 - Pretty Orchards E : 1040 - Crop Field : 868

Nevermind, I misunderstood how trees were spaced out. 9x9 works for me, could make it slightly bigger to use fewer farmers.

Does anyone know what the ideal orchard size is with this mod? I built a 4x16 orchard but only got 4 trees

You're welcome :)

I don't think uploading to Steam changes the mod itself in any way -- it should be the same .pkm file (this mod is PrettyOrchardsE.pkm, for example). If you really want to use the external MM, you can subscribe, find and copy the mod file to where you want, then unsub. Kind of a roundabout solution, but it should work.

Have fun.

Yeah but when downloading em with steam i cant organize em with the mod manager (which is a programm made from another modder), mods downloaded with steam behave different than manually downloaded mods. Banished Nexus Side isnt that good. If you upload a mod fopr banished better use the worldofbanished.com forum. They have a very active community. Thanks for replying to my comment!

I intended to upload my mods to Nexus but never got around to it. That said, you can find your subscribed Steam mods for Banished here (or somewhere similar):
