Rune Of The Shapeshifter (DE)

Description

A re-creation of the "Rune of Shapeshifting" mod by !WolvanlD8M for DOS 2 Classic (which was abandoned). This mod provides 4 single race runes and 6 combination runes, which have been balanced to allow a user to shape-shift to a single or duel race of their choice.

The runes will now give you the shapeshift skills on any rune slot (Weapon, Armour, Amulet) and the Buffs have been changed to be spread across the 3 new slot types you can equip the runes to. The initial 4 runes are craftable in fort joy, and the combination runes have been gated to reaper's coast.



All runes are craft-able and have unique recipes which are simple and easy to get ingredients for.

For Early / Whole Game:

Crafting a basic single race rune
Ripped face of race X + Bone Dust + Disgusting Bag Of Mush
Ripped face of race X + Bone Bust + Augmenter

How to craft "Disgusting Bag Of Mush"
Any Non Void Fish (other than sailfish) + Whisperwood + Intestines or giblets
raw red meat + Penny Bun Mushroom + Intestines or giblets

Mid / Late Game:

Create a single race rune in your current adventure
Mask Of Shapeshifter Of Race X + Pixie Dust

Combination rune recipes
Rune Of Race X + Rune Of Race Y + Pixie Dust + Source Orb

With the combinations you will get buffs that are a combination of both races however they are scaled back by 50% - 60% as you will have access to ALOT more buffs.



This version of the mod also gives the users the ability to stay shape-shifted even after the removal of the rune. I did this because i didn't want to write a script to prevent users from doing this (As i liked this feature in classic), however you are stuck as that race until you re-equip the rune and use the revert back to original form spell, or use the respec mirror.

The 4 race shapeshift is not available due to balance reasons, however will be added to the mod at a later date. Once balancing has been planned (you can add your suggestions to this in the features discussion)



Some up and coming features of note on the way are:

- Custom Icons for the runes in the inventory

- 4 Race Rune with crafting recipe

- Custom Portraits when shapeshifted along with new static custom shape shifted appearances

- Crafting recipe and implementation of an item to allow users to change the appearance of the transformed form within the game.

A light version of this where you get a complete rune by combining fane's mask and a source orb like the original version would be cool

Hm, great work on creating the mod. Only issue is you advertise it as being a continuation of the original one. However you've added your own nuance to it. Forcing crafting restrictions.

You say you didn't add it because of balance, but being able to shift anyways breaks the balance. No reason not to include the original functionality of the original mod for those that wanted it.

Hello everyone, i have created a new discussion thread so people can request features or give feedback for the mod. I am pleased to announce an update is on the way (most likely dropping in the next 4 days depending on my time availability due to work).

From the development list (within the new discussion thread i created) i shall be dropping the balancing changes and i am working on the custom rune icons. for a sneak peak, combo runes are incoming so if you want to merge two runes together to create a hybrid rune which you can equip on your weapon, armour or amulet stay tuned.

@brendancavalier the runes only grant the ability when equipped on a rune slot on an amulet. If on armour or a weapon they only act like a small masterwork rune. I don't believe you need to use it on a brand new game as i was able to utilise the mod in a mid game save.

If you have further issues please let me know and i will bug fix it.

Hi, was really hoping for this to work! I crafted the rune of the elf and equiped it in a weapon for Fane, but can't seem to change into an elf still. Am I using this incorrectly? Do I need to use it on a brand new game?

Yes there is a way of producing an immunity runes mod. I am currently designing several mods right now. One which addresses this scenario. This particular mod will be a craft your own armour mod and design it with the desired traits.
e.g Custom gloves, +1 to 2 handed, +1 to pyromancer, +25% resistance to fire, Grants skill charm.

this would be done by crafting a small 2 handed rune, combining it with a small pyromancer rune to get a medium fire sword rune. you then combine the medium firesword rune with a medium fire rune to get a large flaming lord rune. (all skill runes are large or giant if they have 2 skills) and then you combine the large flaming lord rune with a charm skill rune to get a giant demonic charm rune. you can then apply the rune either via normal means or using a inscriber tool (which you have to craft) with the custom made gloves to create gloves of demonic charm.

So please stand by for this mod release. It shall be called Dapper Armour Crafting.

Hello, while it is possible to create a rune that functions as the original, The only issue i have with it is balance. However, if it is super important i believe i am able to create a complex recipe maybe even a rune framed version that will allow you to achieve the effect.

I could also produce another mod that achieves this effect also. thank you for your feedback i shall look into a decide how to best approach this request.

is there a way to make immunity runes mod ? like a rune that would make you immune to a certain something (the only one i want is charm immunity for my glass cannon builds)
