Just like us, monsters have elemental defense and attacks. Embedding our armor and weapons with additional elements will boost our damage and resistance.

◌ ᴇʟᴇᴍᴇɴᴛᴀʟ ʙᴀsɪᴄs
Using skills and weapons that hinders a monster's element helps us defeat them faster; and using elemental armor can reduce incoming damage. However, if a monster's elemental defense hinders ours; our damage dealt will be reduced instead.

The majority of mage-classified jobs offer elemental skills. Using these against the proper element will cause an increase in damage; but also a decreased damage if the monsters' odds are against us.
