Description
Diseases Restored - A Reimagination Series Mod

Restores diseases to their former glory, making sanitation an important part of a successful colony. Food poisoning is more of a nuisance and slimelung is lethal once more, and piping germy water into your main water reservoir is no longer a viable tactic.

Diseases Changes

Common
  • Diseases tend to make dupes stressed
  • A brand-new Germ Integration system makes dupes that get exposed to more germs more likely to get sick. A dozen Food Poisoning germs aren't going to hurt, but exposure to a couple thousand is definitely going to get Liam sick.
  • Some diseases now have Symptoms, cured by different methods. Check the table in the preview!

Food poisoning
  • Causes new Symptom "Vomiting"
  • Bathroom use speed greatly decreased (20% -> 100%)
  • Curative Tablet increases recovery speed by 500% instead of instantly curing

Food poisoning symptom: Vomiting
  • Dupe vomits germy Polluted Water every 120s
  • Loses 500 kcal every vomit
  • -50% stamina per cycle
  • Cured with a Curative Tablet

Slimelung
  • Now causes Symptom "Lethal"
  • Now causes Symptom "Coughing", instead of directly causing coughing
  • Lasts 6 cycles (up from 4)
  • Medical Pack increases recovery speed by 200% instead of instantly curing

Slimelung symptom: Lethal
  • Dupe dies after 6 cycles
  • Cured with Medical Pack

Slimelung symptom: Coughing
  • Coughing every 20s that spreads Slimelung germs
  • Cured with Curative Tablet

Ailment changes
Scalding: The hotter it is, the more it hurts! (+ 1 damage per second per 5 C, meaning lava is liable to instantly incapitate a dupe that ventures into it)

Frostbite: A cold equivalent to Scalding! Don't touch anything that's too cold (under -20 C) or you'll take similar damage to scalding-hot things.

Germ spread
Farming: Feed plants germy water, get germy crops. One more reason not to feed sieved bathroom water into your coveted Bristle Berry farm. (The other reason being that it's gross.)

Plumbing: Dupes that wash their hands with germy water in Sinks or Showers will get some of the germs on them. Make sure to wash with clean water.

Zombie Spores: These hardy spores can spread through solids, though they still slowly die off in them. That tile of Igneous Rock isn't going to keep you safe from the wrath of the Sporechids.

UV Cleaner
Rather than being forced to rely on chlorine for degerming, you can now use the UV Cleaner! Unlocked with Pathogen Diagnostics and built with some Refined Metal, these handy machines consume 480 W of power to purify 95% of the germs from the water fed to it, 5 kg at a time. Keep your dupes away from it, though, because wandering near a UV Cleaner in motion is going to give them a bad case of Sunburn, which is no fun.

Other mods

Make sure to check out the other Reimagination Series mods if you want to freshen up the game, or give yourself extra challenge, or just plain want things to make more sense. Decor Reimagined gives dupes the ability to appreciate variety in decor, rather than being satisfied with a dozen identical statues in a row. Traits Reworked makes the "bad traits" have their own redeeming factors, and makes the so-called good traits have some not-so-nice aspects.

Following up on the conversation regarding Slime Lung and Oxygen Masks.

To be infected by Slime Slung, you Duplicant needs to breathe in contaminated Oxygen. Oxygen Masks will protect your Duplicants since they do not breath in the air of their environment, as long as the masks aren't completely empty.

As evidence, I prefer Oxygen Masks for general purpose base activities and have used them countless times to protect my Duplicants in contaminated areas. As long as they don't run out of Oxygen and need to breathe in the atmosphere, Slime Lung is never a problem.

Yes, and that's just part of difficulty selection. A few years back, I started an ultra hard playthrough, where I playted with Diseases Restored and started on the hardest asteroid. So I knew I better not dig in any infected slime. If you don't want to be prevented from digging in infected slime until you have balm lilies, then don't play with DR or don't play hard asteroids.

@n3mes1s is right, there is no Balm Lilly on Ceres and on closer planetoids. You need to wait untill 500 Cycle and print them or find and land on Marshy Planetoid.

"Once you make the level 2 medicine out of Balm Lily flowers and can administer it with a level 2 skill docto" and yet there are many circunstances where you wont have balm lilys to make the sick bay serum. So in the moment one of your dupes get slimelung (that it will sooner or later unless you completely avoid digging in slime biomes) you expect him to die already... im in favor or making diseases more serious. BUT NOT LETHAL. Thats ridiculous, specially slimelung. Having the resources to make vials in the sick bay and the bed sometimes is not possible. But i guess the modder didnt have this in consideration lol.

the mod needs to be modified to work with frosty planet frost proof effects. otherwise its impossible to play on a frosty planet

Very good question. I've never run the experiment. But I'm inclined to believe the answer is no, O2 masks will not protect against Slimelung. I believe the game mechanics will still consider the dupe to have contact with the infected gas, which will in turn result in Slimelung germs moving to the dupe. When the germs move to the dupe, that will result in the dupe's infection, provided the number of germs is above the infection threshold.

Whereas, Atmo Suits are coded in the game mechanics to prevent dupes from having contact environmental gas and liquid for purposes of germ transfer.
