The list of builds that are compatible with this truck is now too long to fit in the description, so I've moved it to the discussion section on the original trucks workshop page. For the full list, please click HERE

'Ere SAV, show us yer V.A.G!
For those not already familiar with how this works, the V.A.G is, like you would expect, the Vehicular Avant Garde of SAVTec's truck fleet. A militarised version of the increasingly popular T6 series 6x6 transport chassis (see link above)

What do I need a V.A.G for when I already have both a T.W.A.T and a S.N.A.T.C.H!?
Simple! The V.A.G can take more stick, being built entirely from heavy armour blocks... and it has a lovely missile launcher on the top for shooting stuffs. It can also carry some 20 tons of ammo.

V.A.G is intended as a front-line combat breacher - the thing you use to blow a hole in enemy defences so the rest of your forces can get inside & do their thing. It's fast enough to evade incoming fire, terrain-capable enough to exploit undefended geography; and tough enough to soak up punishment while it's getting the job done.

It's a nice easy mnemonic too... If you want a hole, get a V.A.G! Remember that & you'll never send the wrong T6 variant into combat again!

Toughening up your V.A.G
Like you'd expect with any militarised version of a civilian vehicle, the humble S.N.A.T.C.H had to undergo some crucial upgrades in order to become a V.A.G.
  • Conveyor system reworked - burried deeper within the vehicle
  • Unladen mass increased to approx 75 tons as a result of additional armour
  • Cargo capacity reduced to afford more room for armour (2-3 blocks thick in most places)
  • Cockpits set further back to give at least some frontal armour
  • Suspension settings bolstered to work with the increased weight of the heavy armour
  • Max default speed increased to a more fighting-y 100km/h or 60mph (comparable to real world fighting vehicles of similar weight)
  • Missile turret added (duh!). Can easily be swapped for a Gattling turret to suit different mission profiles
  • Multiple levels of redundancy... 3 pairs of reactors plus twin batteries, 2 O2 generators instead of 1.
  • "Infra-red" headlights
  • Flashing "Blues" for peacekeeping duty
  • Huge bank of forward spotlights for intimidation / blind & disorientation tactics
  • 4 gyroscopes instead of 1 - can now be helpful in normal gravity as well as low gravity. Good for getting the vehicle unstuck from obstacles (recommend disabling 2-3 gyros for use in low gravity)

Getting the most out of your V.A.G
Like the old saying goes, you get out what you put in.
To get the most out of your V.A.G it's first necessary to put the most into it... Ammo that is. The V.A.G can carry an impressive amount of the stuff, ensuring it can stay in combat long enough to get the job done.

You'll no doubt want to use your V.A.G many times before you consign it to the scrap heap - and no-one likes to look at an old damaged V.A.G after all.
To keep your V.A.G in good shape, exercise it daily and remember the golden rule... V.A.G is harder to penetrate from the side than it is from the front - and easiest to penetrate from the rear and on top.
Stay side-on to any incoming "fire" & your V.A.G stands a better chance of not getting ruined.

Sideways on, not only will your V.A.G be leading incoming "shots" the fastest but the armour is also thicker on the side, meaning it can absorb more of a pounding without critical internal systems being damaged.

Once the V.A.G has a clear run at the enemy's walls, tear them a new one with the missile launcher & send in the troops.

V.A.G likes to gang up on its enemies
As anyone who's come up against a whole battalion of V.A.G's will tell you, they're relatively weak on their own and strongest when in numbers. Get a bunch of V.A.G's together and they'll cause untold misery & destruction!
V.A.G is therefore best used in squadrons.

Controlling an unruly V.A.G
While your V.A.G can be a lot of fun to play with on your own, it works best when there are two of you. One controls the action, the other shoots. One person cannot possibly do two things at the same time after all - especially not in the heat of err... battle...
The drivers seat is on the correct side as always; the gunner sits on the left.

Things to do with your V.A.G when you're bored
Increase the max speed on all the axles & treat it roughly on the moon.
If you catch some good jumps, the on-board gyroscopes will allow you to do barrel rolls & somersaults in mid-air!
V.A.G's are also pretty handy on rough terrain in Earth gravity - you'll need to be a little gentler there of course - you wouldn't want your V.A.G destroyed after all!

Feedback
Comments / questions / suggestions / constructive criticism all very welcome.
I've even been known to do the odd request-build from time to time, so if you have an idea, drop me a line. If I like it I may build it.

It has the vanilla 5x5 wheels - but there have been changes to the wheel hitboxes since I made it, so you may find that some of the armour blocks now get in the way, where they didn't used to.
Far as I know, the new hitboxes don't affect normal operation of the wheels once they're in place - say if you paste the vehicle in using creative tools.
The problems are only when you build it in survival mode & are unable to place or add the wheels.

I don't know if this is something that Keen plans to fix later or if this is just the way it is now - but for my part there's nothing I can do, as my graphics card blew up and, for now at least, I don't have a PC capable of playing the game.

If you're building in Survival mode, you can try removing some of the surrounding armour blocks, though I can't guarantee it'll work.

Thanks @Yulyeong! Always gratifying to hear when people like my descriptions!
I'm not sure how I come up with them either to be honest. I just like playing with words. Glad you enjoyed it anyhow! :steamhappy:

I don't know how you come with all these descriptions but I love it so much :')

@Mojo... Regrettably I haven't. I only ever play closed SP, so don't really have any good way to test combat builds against anything that resembles intelligent opponents. Hence I don't tend to do many combat builds. When I do, I pretty much rely on my subbers to tell me if I'm getting it right or wrong... so I'm grateful for any & all input.

I'm aware that Keen have nerfed armour something ridiculous. Heavy armour is now no better than light. It's a pointless tweak for tweaking's sake if you ask me. There was nothing wrong with what we had before. No idea why they thought it needed changing.

I guess it's possible there's some surprise coming in the update that'll make sense of it - can't think what but you never know. They did say there are some surprises.
Either way I think there'll be a lot of complaints about the nerf. Wouldn't surprise me if it gets un-nerfed after not long.

Have you battle tested it? Unless something happened recently armor blocks hit a piece of grass and they are trashed..lol, they are pretty weak.
Not knocking your build at all just taking a jab at Keen and how armor blocks are no where near as tough as they used to be. :)

You could also use the floodlights for Morse code!

Thanks very much @OshujE! Writing these descriptions is half of the fun for me! May you elicit many long hours of pleasure from your new V.A.G! :steamhappy:

Probably the funniest description I've seen, Ill definitely be using this V.A.G.

Haha! Alas though, modern medicine cannot outpace my ability to come up with the next dirty acronym! You'll just be coming round when BAM - the next one hits - and you're done for! :lunar2019crylaughingpig:
