Rimworld 1.0 (1.0.X) Version:

B18(0.18.0) Version:

Description:

Requires at least HugsLib 5.0.0

Load order
// HugsLib
// Children, school and learning

// Birds&Bees (not required, but has to be after Children if used)

Children are born 15 years old [configurable].
- This mod doesn't claim realism, I just liked the way this was implemented in the old game 'diggles'
- Pregnancy functions the same as with animals [chance configurable]. The looks of the child are based on the parents (Partially for AlienRaces)
- Children 'inherit' skills from the parents [configurable], but have random passions and traits
- Birth control 'drug' can be crafted and given a shedule (needs a newly created drug policy in running game to show up, one pill lasts 5 days, can be added with 'Prepare Carefully' under medical)
- Children are born after 45 days(15 days early-stage (not visible, but chance to vomit) / 15 days middle-stage / 15 days late-stage) (these are unchanged base-game values! There is now an option to modify this without having to change the base game or mod files)
- Artificial pregnancy through a medical operation (if the colonist has a partner/lover they are used, but it is also possible to have a pregnancy without a partner) (two female partners or an unfertile father can have a child through this)
- Discover pregnancy operation - pregnancy is normally not visible for the first third of its duration (base game behavior, but can now also be disabled in the options for colonists)
- Remove pregnancy operation

Includes a blackboard and school-table where skilled pawns can teach different subjects.
- Students can only learn with a teacher present
- You need to have the job of learning AND teaching a subject at the blackboard AND school-table
- Students can learn 1 year until they are 16 [configurable]
- Teachers need the intellectual skill at a decent level + a high level in the tought subject (probably needs balancing)
- You can set up certain times in which school activities get higher priority over the normal work

It should not require a new save, as the functions hook into existing content,
but I have not extensively tested that.

Mod compatibility:

- Humanoid Alien Races 2.0 I tested these ones, but most should work:
> Asari
> Dwarves
> Elves
> Hobbits
> Orassans
> Callistans
> Androids (Android children are disabled by default, but can be enabled in the options)
There are Alien Races which have some of their features not drawn for children (like missing tails etc.), please also install this mod:
https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1498289969

- The Birds and the Bees
Load order:
// Children, school and learning (just 'Children' ingame)
// The Birds and the Bees
The fertility(Birds&Bees) influences the chance to get pregnant
(so with Birds&Bees some colonist might not be able to have children)

- EdB Prepare Carefully
There are problems with AlienRace colonists from B18 not having their correct race set for children.

- Psychology

- Rim of Madness - Vampires & Werewolves
Vampires can't have children by default, but can be enabled
Werewolf children first transform when they get 12 years old and werewolf pregnancy takes only 40% of normal time by default.
Both curses are inherited by default but can be configured.

- Other mods
It should be fine unless other mods change the birth/lovin routines

Mods that have advanced interactions with this mod [they seem to be offline at this point]:

@Kishero - You posted this in the very old version ^^ but I checked and it is still working for me (do you still have the option enabled in the mod-options, it should give them the trait with the option 'enable natural focus for colony-children' as long as they are a 'Child of the colony'(or a compatible one) in their backstory and you may need to save/reload after re/enabling it)
otherwise you can post your modlist/details in the troubleshooting-thread on the current mod-page

Small issue I have found since latest patch: The 'Colony Child' background dosent add Nature focus for gaining psy or medatating at the synapse tree thing. Even if both parents are tribal and would have it themselves, even if they are both psionicaly bonded to the tree already.

I really enjoy the mod with a 10 pop tribal start, it's like building up a society over generations.

@Smelly Fish - Well, hopefully it's more or less the last time for a while ^^ I have some of the bigger improvements which need a stable/unchanging base game to really put the time into :D

The one thing I hate about new updates is that I have to update every single mod manually if it's a separate version on the workshop.
